The Santec Bumpy Frog 35914 is a soft-bodied topwater lure for aggressive freshwater predators around weed, grass, lily pads and shallow cover. At 60mm and 15g it is the biggest soft frog in the Santec range — a large surface silhouette with enough mass to be cast a long way and placed accurately at the back of a bay or against a far bank. On the retrieve the lure travels with a slightly angled swimming posture, around 45 degrees, so it pushes water and looks like a struggling frog or an injured baitfish trying to escape across the surface. Long flexible legs trail behind and move with every pull, twitch and pause, so the lure keeps working without a fast retrieve. The soft body compresses when a fish bites so the hook points come clear, and the double hooks sit close to the body for a weed-resistant profile that crosses floating vegetation far more easily than an exposed-hook lure. It is built for toman, tarpon and other predators that hit at or near the surface.

How To Fish It

• Slow wake retrieve — Wind just fast enough for the angled body to push a visible wake. The legs do the work; going faster only flattens the profile out.
• Walk over the mat — Rhythmic rod-tip taps to shuffle the frog across matted grass and pads, then a full stop in each open pocket. Count to three before moving again.
• Big-fish pause — Beside a likely ambush point, leave it dead for five or more seconds. Large toman will often come up and inspect a stationary frog before committing.
• Set hard, late — Do not strike at the boil. Wait for the rod to load, sweep low and hard, then keep pressure on to plane the fish over the weed.

• Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) as the primary target, over lily pads, flooded grass and reservoir timber; striped snakehead (haruan), peacock bass and barramundi (siakap) in mangrove drains and canals.
• North America — Largemouth bass in matted vegetation and pads, where a big frog draws the better fish; bowfin and chain pickerel in weedy backwaters.
• Japan & East Asia — Largemouth bass (blackbass) on lake and reservoir weed beds through the summer frogging season.
