Santec Bom Spring 5cm Mata Bom Bait Feeder (3908950)
The Santec Mata Bom Spring is a bait feeder for freshwater bottom fishing, here in the larger 5cm body. Its spiral metal frame holds mouldable bait — softened pellets, ground bait, bread paste or cereal mixes — pressed firmly around and between the coils so it survives handling and the cast. Once the rig lands, the packed bait softens and releases scent and small food particles around the hook, building a feeding zone that pulls fish in and holds them over the rig. A straight support wire runs through the centre to keep the spring's shape, and the fitted swivel lets the feeder rotate freely to help reduce line twist. The 5cm frame carries more bait than the smaller springs, so it suits bigger fish, coloured water and swims where you need to build a wide feeding area quickly.
Key Features
- Strong spiral spring construction with wide coils and good bait capacity
- Larger 5cm body holds more bait per cast than short springs
- Central support wire helps the feeder keep its shape
- Built-in swivel helps reduce line twisting
- Attachment loop connects easily to different rigs
- Green end beads separate and protect the metal components
- Metallic corrosion-resistant finish; reusable after washing and drying
- Unweighted, so you choose the sinker to match the swim
How To Fish It
- Get the mix right — Add water slowly until the bait holds when squeezed but still crumbles between the fingers. Too wet and it slips off in mid-air; too dry and it never breaks down on the bottom.
- Pack it tight — Press the bait hard into the coils and mould the outside smooth. A big 5cm ball needs a smooth loaded casting stroke, never a hard snap.
- Add your own weight — Fit a running sinker above the swivel, or a fixed sinker below it. Use only enough lead to hold bottom and reach the mark.
- Short droppers — Two or three droppers of roughly 3–6 cm keep the hooks inside the bait ball, buried in it or hanging against it.
- Bait first, then fish — Three or four loaded casts to one spot build the swim. Reload every 10–20 minutes early on, longer once fish arrive.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Big-bait mata bom work in Malaysian and Indonesian kolam pancing: catfish (keli), carp (ikan kap), patin and tilapia (talapia), plus estuary and jetty sessions for threadfin (senangin) and bream.
- North America — The coil-spring approach for channel, blue and flathead catfish on punch or dough bait, and carp in rivers and reservoirs.
- Japan & East Asia — The dango-zuri principle for carp (koi), crucian carp (herabuna) and black seabream (chinu) off harbour walls.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Comparable to a large method feeder for carp and bream; also catfish and tilapia in Gulf ponds and canals.
