Santec Bom Spring 5.0cm Matabom Lure Bottom Fishing Accessories
The Santec Bom Spring 5.0cm is a reusable bait feeder for the Malaysian mata bom style of bottom fishing, where moulded groundbait is packed around a spring and breaks down on the bottom to build a feeding patch around your hooks. What separates this version from a plain feeder spring is the swivel built into the middle of the body: it gives you a dedicated point to hang a hook leader partway along the spring, and lets that leader rotate freely so a twisting bait or spinning fish does not kink your line. A straight support wire holds the coil shape when bait is packed hard, loops at both ends give several rigging options, and green beads cushion the metal joints. One 5cm size, for anglers who tie their own rigs.
Key Features
- Spiral feeder for dough, groundbait and softened pellet mixes
- Integrated middle swivel as an extra leader attachment point
- Swivel rotation reduces leader twist and tangling
- Central support wire keeps the coil shape under packed bait
- Connection loops at both ends for flexible rigging
- Green beads separate and cushion the metal components
- Corrosion-resistant finish; washes clean and reuses
How To Fish It
- Mixing the bait — Work the mix until it holds when squeezed but crumbles when rubbed. Too dry and it falls apart on the cast; too wet and it sits as a lump instead of breaking down and releasing scent.
- Packing the spring — Press bait into the coils from both sides so it locks around the support wire, then round it off with your palm. A properly packed ball survives the cast and softens over several minutes.
- Rigging off the middle swivel — Hang a short hook leader from the middle swivel so the hook sits in or beside the bait ball. Keep leaders short to hold the hook inside the feeding patch; lengthen only where fish are shy.
- Baiting up the swim — Cast three or four loaded springs to the same spot before fishing properly. Recast every ten to fifteen minutes at first to build the patch, then leave the rig once fish arrive.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — The core mata bom method at commercial ponds (kolam pancing), reservoirs and river mouths for walking catfish (keli), patin, tilapia and carp.
- North America — Coil spring and dough-ball rigs for channel and blue catfish, plus carp on packbait in rivers and reservoirs.
- Japan & East Asia — Equivalent to dango-zuri, where moulded paste bait is packed around a rig for carp (koi) and crucian carp (herabuna) in ponds and canals.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — European method-feeder carp and bream fishing on commercial lakes, and packbait rigs for carp in Middle Eastern canals and dams.
