Santec Big Net with Spring / Double Big Net with Spring (Matabom Fishing Net)

This is a baited spring net — the matabom or bom rig — not a landing net. A heavy steel spring at the head works as the bait cage, with a long fine net skirt hanging below it. Bait is packed onto the spring, the rig is lowered to the bottom, and the net opens as it settles. Fish drawn in feed at the centre of the spread net and are enclosed when it is lifted. Luminous beads aid visibility in stained water, and a top swivel reduces line twist.

How To Use It

• How it differs from a plain bom spring — A bare bom spring holds bait and nothing else, so the paste washes off and the swim scatters within minutes. Here the net wraps the spring, so bait breaks down through mesh, the feed leaks out slowly, and the scent trail holds over one spot far longer.
• Packing the bait — Work bread paste, softened pellet or groundbait until stiff, then press it hard into the coils. Too wet and it drops off on the way down; too dry and it never releases.
• Setting the rig — Lower it vertically rather than casting and let it settle flat so the skirt opens. Hold light tension, then lift in one long steady pull — a jerky lift closes the net early.
• Single vs Double — The single is the everyday choice: lighter, easier to lower in current, quicker to reset between spots. The Double carries more bait and covers more ground per drop, suiting deeper or colored water and longer soaks.
