S.A.S Lipper Minnow 85mm 11.5g Sinking Fishing Lure

The Lipper Minnow is a sinking hard minnow, and that single fact is what makes it different from most of the range: it does not sit at a fixed depth, you choose the depth. After the cast you count the lure down before starting the retrieve, so the same lure can be worked just under the surface, through a mid-water bait school, or right along the bottom. A fixed-weight system — the ballast does not shift inside the body — keeps the lure balanced in flight and stable on the drop, and combined with the streamlined 85mm body it casts a long way and lands accurately. On a steady wind the transparent diving lip gives a tight, fast wobble; short twitches break that into sharp darting movements that draw reaction strikes. At 85mm it suits rivers, canals, reservoirs and sheltered coastal water alike.

Key Features

  • 85mm / 11.5g sinking body — depth is set by the angler, not by the lure
  • Fixed-weight system keeps the lure balanced in casting and stable on the sink
  • Streamlined profile supports long, accurate casting
  • Transparent diving lip produces a tight wobbling action on the retrieve
  • Darts sharply off line when twitched
  • Two sharp treble hooks at belly and tail
  • Rated by the maker for freshwater and saltwater use

How To Fish It

  • Countdown to find the fish — This is the method the lure is built for. Cast, then count seconds as it sinks before winding. Try three, then five, then eight, and repeat whichever count produces the bite on every cast after that.
  • Count down to the bottom, then lift — Let the lure sink until the line goes slack, which tells you it has landed, then wind up a few turns to clear the bottom. This keeps you in the lowest metre without hanging up constantly.
  • Twitch and sink — Two sharp twitches, then a pause. Unlike a floating lure it drops on the pause, so you step down through the water column as you retrieve. Watch the line for bites on the fall.
  • Fish current and wind — Cast up-current and count down as the lure swings, holding it in the seam. The sinking body also cuts wind and surface chop better than a floating minnow.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) in deep river pools, peacock bass and giant snakehead (toman) holding below the surface in reservoirs, barramundi (siakap) at jetty pylons and river mouths, and small trevally around rock walls.
  • North America — Smallmouth bass on deep river seams, walleye over gravel, striped bass under bait schools, and speckled trout in deeper channels.
  • Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) on shore casting from harbour walls and river mouths, plus hirame and flathead counted down over sand.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass, golden perch and estuary flathead; zander, perch and pike in Europe, where counting a sinking minnow down over gravel pits and canal ledges is standard.

Recommended Pairing

  • 6.5–7.5 ft light to medium spinning rod with a sensitive tip, so you can see and feel bites that come on the sink
  • 10–20 lb braid — low stretch and thin diameter let the lure sink on a straighter line and make the countdown consistent
  • 15–25 lb fluorocarbon leader; fluorocarbon sinks and will not lift the lure out of the depth you counted to
  • 2500–3000 spinning reel; add a short wire trace when barracuda or mackerel are present
