Megabass Pop-X 63mm 7g Floating Topwater Popper

In the Megabass line since 1996, the Pop-X is built around one idea: a popper that does more than pop. Inside the body sits a patented Side-Stepping Balancer — a fixed tungsten weight in the tail plus a spherical tungsten ball toward the front that rolls from side to side. On a tight line the bait spits and chugs; fed slack, that moving ball lets it swing into a walking action without changing lures. The head carries a patented gill system of two slits that let water pass through the body, so the surface disturbance is softer than the flat bloop of a conventional cupped-face popper. At 63mm and 7g it stays finesse-sized while still throwing real water — a useful answer for pressured fish and calm mornings.

How To Fish It

• Short spit cadence — Twitch in roughly three-inch pulls on a semi-slack line; each pull throws water about ten inches ahead. Pause one to three seconds, longer as the water cools.
• Walking the dog — Give more slack and feed a steady rhythm of light downward twitches. The moving balancer swings the tail left and right so the bait zig-zags instead of chugging in place.
• Stop over cover — Work the bait to a grass edge, timber or a dock, then stop it dead for three to five seconds. Most strikes come on the pause.
• Low-light windows — Early morning, dusk and overcast days over grass beds, points and shoreline cover are the highest-percentage conditions.

Recommended Pairing

• Medium-light casting or 2500-size spinning rod, 6 to 6'8", with a soft tip that lets the bait move on slack line
