LURESFACTORY - MF SMOOTH FROG 4.5cm 9.1g HARDBODY LURE TOPWATER
Luresfactory MF Smooth Frog 4.5cm 9.1g Sinking Hardbody Frog
The MF Smooth Frog is a handmade resin frog that does the one thing most surface frogs cannot: it sinks. At 4.5cm and 9.1g it carries roughly 2g for every centimetre of body, the second highest loading in the Luresfactory range and around 30 per cent denser than the floating MF Leaf Frog in exactly the same 4.5cm length. That extra mass in a smooth, compact shell buys two things. First, casting: a small frog that weighs 9.1g can be pitched accurately into a gap in the weed and thrown a long way across open water. Second, depth control — the lure has no fixed running depth, so you choose it with the countdown. Wind straight away for a shallow swim just under the film, or let it drop for a few seconds first to swim it along the base of a weed wall. An internal rattle keeps the lure noticeable in stained water and low light, where a silent sinking bait would simply disappear. The body is built on stainless-steel through-wire, the silicone skirt keeps pulsing all the way through the fall, and close-fitting 2/0 double hooks with a weed guard reduce hook exposure around light vegetation. No lure is completely snag-free. Each piece is handmade and individually painted, so small differences in colour, pattern, finish and weight occur between lures.

How To Fish It
- Count it down — Cast, then count while it sinks before starting the retrieve. Add a count at a time until you find fish, then repeat the same number on every cast so the lure stays in the productive band.
- Sub-surface swim — Start winding immediately for a steady swim just under the film. This is the go-to when fish are boiling at bait but refusing anything sitting on top.
- Work the weed wall — Cast parallel to the outside edge of a weed bed, let it drop to the base of the growth, and swim it back along that face rather than over the top.
- Drop into pockets — Pitch into an opening in the vegetation and let it fall straight down inside the pocket. Watch the line; takes on the fall show as a twitch or a stopped drop rather than a splash.
- Stop and go — Two or three turns of the handle, then a pause to let it sink a short way before winding again. The rattle restarts on every restart of the retrieve, which is often the trigger.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) along weed walls and around drowned timber, striped snakehead (haruan) in ponds and drains, peacock bass off reservoir points, and hampala barb (sebarau) in deeper river pools where a floating frog rides over the fish.
- North America — Largemouth bass on deeper weed edges and drop-offs, northern snakehead in tidal creeks, and chain pickerel along the outside of grass beds.
- Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) in canals and irrigation ponds when fish will not commit on top, and black bass fished down the face of reservoir weed and rock.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga and sooty grunter in creek pools; pike and perch worked down the edges of weed beds and along canal margins in Europe.

Recommended Pairing
- Medium to medium-heavy casting rod with a tip sensitive enough to register a take on a slack-line drop
- 20–40 lb braid straight through so the fall stays controlled and line movement is easy to read
- High-visibility braid is worth using here — a large share of the bites are seen on the line, not felt
- Short fluorocarbon leader in clear water; braid alone where fish must be pulled clear of stems and timber
