The TR Slide Bird trades the frog silhouette for a bird body — a short 4.5cm shell with a raised head and a tail, carrying 8.5g. The shape is not decoration. On reservoirs and impoundments across Southeast Asia, fledglings, swifts and small birds genuinely fall onto the water at the edges of flooded timber and shoreline scrub, and giant snakehead and hampala barb feed on them when they do. Just as importantly, on water that has been hammered with frogs season after season, fish learn the frog outline. A bird profile drawing a different wake, breaking the surface at a different angle, will regularly draw a strike from fish that have stopped committing to frogs. The 8.5g body casts well for its length, and skirt strands trail behind to keep something moving on the pause. A close-fitting 2/0 double hook keeps exposure lower than a treble around light grass, but no lure is completely snag-free.

How To Fish It

• Slide and stall — Short sharp rod-tip pulls make the body skate sideways, then a stop lets it settle with the head up. Two slides, one stop, repeat — the stall is what a struggling bird actually does.
• Under the overhang — Cast tight beneath trees, scrub and leaning bamboo where birds fall in. Landing the lure with an audible splash under branches is a feature here, not a fault.
• Around standing timber — Work it past drowned trunks and branch stubs in flooded reservoirs, letting it bump structure and slide off at a new angle.
• Switch after refusals — When fish are boiling behind frogs without eating, throw the bird on the next cast to the same fish. The change of outline is the reason to carry it.
• Set on weight — Wind through the splash instead of striking at it. Wait until the rod loads with the fish, then sweep sideways.
