The TR Red Eyed Frog is a realistic frog-bodied surface lure with prominent red eyes and a flexible silicone skirt that pulses behind the body on the retrieve. What sets it apart from the plain hard-body frogs is the hook arrangement: a close-fitting double hook follows the body and an anti-snag guard sits over the points, so this is the lure to throw into the salad rather than alongside it — reeds, lotus, lily pads and matted grass — although no lure is completely snag-free. The published hook size is 2/0. It comes in two sizes that fish quite differently. The 4.5cm 10g Standard is the general-purpose choice: a bigger silhouette and enough weight to cast into wind and cover water, suiting larger fish and open pond, canal and reservoir margins. The 4cm 7g Junior gives a smaller presentation, lands more softly and drops accurately into narrow openings between stems and pads — the one for pressured water, thin clear margins, or when fish keep boiling at the bigger frog without taking it.

How To Fish It

• Walk it over cover — Short downward rod-tip taps in a steady rhythm slide the frog side to side across pads and matted grass. Keep slight slack between taps so the body can swing.
• Hold it in the holes — When the frog reaches an open pocket, stop and let it sit for three or more seconds. The skirt keeps breathing while it is still, and this is where most takes happen.
• Steady swim on open edges — Along a clean grass line, a slow constant wind gives a wake presentation. Use the Standard here; its weight holds a straighter line.
• Pick the size to the gap — Junior for narrow slots, overhung banks and tight lotus stems where accuracy beats distance; Standard when the cast is long, the wind is up, or the fish are big.
• Set on weight — With a guarded double hook the fish must close on the lure before the points are free. Wind through the blow-up, wait for the rod to load, then sweep sideways hard.
