LURESFACTORY - TR HOP FROG 4.5cm/5.5cm 10.7g/15.5g HARDBODY LURE TOPWATER
Luresfactory TR Hop Frog 4.5cm / 5.5cm, 10.7g / 15.5g Hardbody Topwater
The TR Hop Frog is a hard-body surface frog built around one action: on a twitched retrieve the body lifts, drops and skips forward in short hops, the way a real frog crosses open water between one patch of cover and the next. Wound steadily it stays up in the film with a smooth, splashing track; twitched, it breaks into the hopping motion the lure is named for. A flexible silicone skirt pulses behind the body, keeping the presentation alive during pauses when the body is still, and the double hooks sit close along the back so the lure travels around light grass and weed with far less exposure than a treble-hooked lure — no lure is completely snag-free. Two sizes cover different water. The 4.5cm at 10.7g, on a 2/0 double, is the tighter presentation for canals, drains and pressured fish. The 5.5cm at 15.5g, on a 3/0 double, gives a bigger silhouette, casts further into wind, and carries the hook size to match larger fish on open reservoir edges.
Key Features
- Hard-body topwater frog in two sizes: 4.5cm / 10.7g and 5.5cm / 15.5g
- Hopping and skipping action on a twitched retrieve; smooth surface swim on a steady wind
- 2/0 double hook on the 4.5cm body, 3/0 double on the 5.5cm body
- Flexible silicone skirt for vibration and continued movement on the pause
- Close-fitting hook position for fishing around light vegetation
- Twelve colour patterns: camo, vintage, striped and solid
- Suited to ponds, lakes, rivers, canals and reservoir weed edges
How To Fish It
- Twitch to hop — Short, sharp downward taps of the rod tip on a semi-slack line, taking up the slack between each one. Aim for a rhythm of two or three hops, then a pause.
- Steady wind to cover water — Keep the rod tip low and wind at an even moderate speed to swim the frog across the surface with a constant splash track. Use it to find the productive stretch, then slow down.
- Pause in the strike zone — Stop the lure over a drain mouth, a gap in the reeds or a stump. The skirt keeps working while the body sits still, holding a fish that has followed but not committed.
- Match the size to the water — Use the 4.5cm in canals, drains and clear or heavily fished water; step up to the 5.5cm for distance, wind, coloured water and larger fish over open weed.
- Set sideways, on weight — The resin body does not collapse the way a soft frog does, so a hook set aimed upward at the splash simply pulls the lure away. Keep winding, wait until you feel the rod load, then sweep low and to the side.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) on reservoir weed edges and drowned timber, striped snakehead (haruan) in paddy drains and canals, peacock bass in lily pockets, hampala barb (sebarau) on river weed lines, juvenile barramundi (siakap) at mangrove drain mouths.
- North America — Largemouth bass frog fishing on pads, duckweed and grass lines; chain pickerel and bowfin in backwaters; northern snakehead in tidal creeks.
- Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) on matted cover and cover edges, bass over shallow reservoir weed, catfish (namazu) at dusk in canals and paddy channels.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and barramundi in creek arms; pike and perch over shallow weed in European lakes and canals.
