The MF Slash Duck is a large, heavy surface lure built to make noise. A metal propeller mounted on a wire frame ahead of the body spins throughout the retrieve, throwing spray, flash and a continuous clatter across the top of the water, while the duck-shaped weighted body keeps the whole thing tracking straight instead of rolling. The wire frame holds the blade clear of the body and hook, so it keeps turning even at slow speed. Behind the body a flexible silicone skirt spreads and pulses, adding volume and movement to what is already a loud presentation. This is a searching lure rather than a finesse one: the weight loads a heavy rod for long casts, and the noise pulls fish from a distance across shallow flats, weed edges and open reservoir arms — particularly at first light, last light and in colored water where a quiet lure goes unnoticed. It is stocked in three body lengths and seven color finishes.

How To Fish It

• Steady prop retrieve — Start winding the instant it lands and keep the speed constant, so the blade never stops turning. Wind just fast enough to keep the propeller churning and no faster; that is where it makes the most noise for the least disturbance of its own track.
• Stop and go — Wind for three or four seconds, then stop dead for one or two. The blade falls silent and the skirt collapses and breathes, and following fish very often strike the moment the prop starts up again.
• Fan-cast the flats — Use the casting weight to cover water: work a shallow bay, weed flat or reservoir arm in a fan of casts before moving, rather than fishing single spots.
• Low light and colored water — Dawn, dusk, night and stained or wind-chopped water are where a noisy prop bait earns its place, because fish find it by sound and surface disturbance rather than sight.
• Pause before setting — Fish frequently miss a big surface lure on the first attempt. Keep winding through the boil, wait until the rod loads with the fish's weight, then sweep sideways.
