The MF Monkey is a resin surface lure built around a monkey-head silhouette rather than the usual frog, insect or baitfish shape. That is the whole idea behind it: on reservoirs, ex-mining lakes and canals where fish see the same frogs and poppers every weekend, an unfamiliar body pushing an unfamiliar wake will often draw a strike that a conventional lure no longer gets. At 5cm and 11g it stays compact but carries enough mass to be cast accurately into small openings, along grass lines and tight to branches and overhanging cover. The body carries textured hair detail, moulded facial features and painted eyes, and a flexible silicone skirt trails behind it, spreading and pulsing on the retrieve and continuing to move through every pause. A close-fitting double hook sits along the rear of the body, which gives it far less hook exposure through light vegetation than a treble-hooked lure — though no lure is completely snag-free. How To Fish It

• Steady surface swim — Wind at a constant unhurried speed so the body tracks forward and leaves a wake, and the skirt trails and breathes behind it. This is the search retrieve for covering a bank or a weed line.
• Twitch and pause — Two or three short rod-tip taps to make it hop and dart irregularly, then a two- to three-second stop. The skirt keeps working while the lure sits still, and most fish commit during that stop.
• Place it in the gaps — At 11g on a short body it can be dropped into holes in the pads, shaded pockets under bushes and the corner where a drain meets a canal. Work each spot with a few twitches before moving on.
• Along cover, not away from it — Cast parallel to a grass edge or reed wall and keep the lure within a rod length of it for the whole retrieve rather than pulling out into open water.
• Pause before setting — Striking at the splash pulls a hard body clear of the fish. Keep winding through the blow-up, wait until the rod loads with the fish's weight, then sweep sideways.
