How To Fish It

• Tada-maki (steady retrieve) — The primary method. Cast, count down to the depth you want, then wind at a slow to medium constant speed so the body keeps rolling. Change the count, not the speed, when you want to search a new layer.
• Lift and fall — Sweep the rod up, then lower it and let the minnow sink on a semi-slack line. The heavy body drops nose-down with a rolling flash and takes plenty of bites on the way.
• Bottom bumping — In the surf, let it touch down, wind three or four turns, then let it fall to contact again. This keeps it in the bottom metre where flatfish ambush from the sand.
• Surface retrieve — When bait is showering on top, cast beyond the activity and start winding the instant it lands so the lure tracks just below the surface film.
