Little Jack Likeblinks 70mm 9g / 86mm 16g Sinking Pencil

Likeblinks is a sinking pencil built around an asymmetrical curved body. That shape makes it roll rather than wobble, throwing flash out sideways in an irregular rhythm that reads like a baitfish struggling to stay upright. The centre of gravity sits low, so it keeps a stable posture on the retrieve and rolls gently as it sinks instead of tumbling. Construction is wire-through, with the wire carrying the load from nose to tail rather than the hook hangers, and it is fitted with trebles. Two sizes cover the common baitfish profiles: the 70mm at 9g for light shore tackle and pressured fish, the 86mm at 16g for distance in wind or a larger silhouette.

How To Fish It

• Slow roll — Count it down, then wind slowly and steadily so the body rolls without breaking into a wobble. This is the default retrieve at a set depth.
• Twitch and pause — Two or three short twitches with the tip low, then a stop of one to two seconds. The lure rolls as it settles, and takes usually come as it starts to sink again.
• Stop and go — Wind five or six turns, stop, repeat. The change of speed breaks up the flash pattern, which often beats a constant retrieve on fish that have already refused one.
• Drift across current — Cast up-current at a river mouth or breakwater gap and let the flow swing it across the seam, adding enough rod work to keep it rolling.
