Little Jack Biayu Chrysalis 127mm 21g Three-Jointed Lipless Minnow

The Biayu Chrysalis is a 127mm ayu imitation split into three sections, so the body bends through its whole length instead of pivoting at one joint. It carries no lip; the head is shaped to grip water, and that resistance drives the swimming action. A tungsten weight in the nose loads the cast, holds the lure upright and keeps the joints tracking in line rather than folding over. The pectoral fins are the turning point: leave them on and it runs a tight, I-shaped slalom with the tail doing the work; take them off and the whole body opens into a wider wobble and roll for dirty water or low light. At 21g it casts on standard seabass and bass tackle, and as a sinking type it works the surface film down to the shallow zone.

How To Fish It

• Slow retrieve with the tail working — Wind just fast enough to feel the head loading and the tail section swinging. The joints keep moving even at a crawl, so resist the urge to speed up.
• Retrieve and pause — Wind four or five turns, then stop for one to two seconds. The restart is a common trigger. As a sinking type it rises rather than sinks on a long stop, so keep pauses short to hold the zone.
• Drift down current — At a river mouth or weir, cast up-current and let the flow carry it, winding only to keep contact. This matches an ayu dropping downstream in autumn.
• Fins off in dirty water — Remove the pectoral fins to widen the action and push more water when visibility is poor or the slalom is being refused.
