Hayabusa Ototo 11cm Double Hook Squid Stick Rig — 5 Sticks, Without Dot (SR125)

SR125 is a complete boat squid rig rather than a single lure. Hayabusa lists it in Japan as Pikaichi Stick 11cm Double, 5-hook in its Funa Ika Hitosuji boat-squid range: a 7.2 m doutsuki dropper leader carrying five 11cm stick sutte on branch lines, fished vertically with a sinker or weighted metal jig at the bottom. This is the plain-bodied version of the family — no printed switch-dot panel on the sticks, just a clean translucent finish. Where squid have seen a lot of gear, or where the water is clear and lit, the undecorated body is often the one that keeps getting taken after the marked versions stop working. Each stick carries double-layer crown hooks at the tail.

How To Fish It

• Rig it vertically — Main line to the swivel at the top, sinker or a weighted metal squid jig at the bottom. Lower under control instead of free-spooling, or the five branch lines will tangle on the way down.
• Lift, then hold — Raise the rod smoothly through three to five winds, stop dead, and hold for five to ten seconds. Squid come on during the pause and the fall, not the lift. Work up through the column in stages until you find the depth.
• Never strike — A take feels like the rig has simply become heavier. Lean into it slowly to load the rod, then wind at one unbroken speed — slack line lets a squid off barbless crowns.
• Fish the light edge — On lit boats hold the rig at the boundary between the lit water and the dark, where squid sit and pick off bait moving through.
• Use it as the clean-water answer — Run the plain SR125 alongside a marked switch-dot rig on the same trip. When squid follow but will not close, the undecorated sticks are usually the change that converts them.
