Hayabusa Ototo 11cm Squid Stick Rig — 3 / 5 / 6 / 7 Sticks With Dot (SR131 / SR132 / SR133 / SR134 / SR135)
These are complete, ready-tied squid rigs, not single lures. Hayabusa sells them in Japan as Pikaichi Stick Switch Dot 11cm in its Funa Ika Hitosuji boat-squid range, built as doutsuki droppers: one long leader carrying several 11cm stick sutte on branch lines, fished vertically with a sinker at the bottom. Each stick is a slim, translucent squid jig with crown hooks at the tail and a marked switch-dot panel that gives squid a defined point to close on under artificial light. The model you choose sets how many sticks you fish and how deep a band the rig searches — from a short three-stick rig for shallow marks to a 9.6 m seven-stick rig covering a whole column.
Key Features
- Ready-tied boat squid dropper rigs (doutsuki style), assembled and ready to clip on
- 11cm Pikaichi Stick Switch Dot sutte throughout, in the fish-shaped "ototo" profile
- Switch-dot body marking gives a defined strike target under boat lights
- Five rig lengths from 3.4 m to 9.6 m, carrying 3, 5, 6 or 7 sticks
- Double-layer crown hooks on SR131, SR132, SR133 and SR135; single-layer crowns on SR134
- SR134 and SR135 supplied with an additional komase kaku attractor sutte
- Barbless crown points, so squid release cleanly at the boat
How To Fish It
- Set it up as a dropper — Main line to the top swivel, sinker or weighted squid jig at the bottom. Lower under control rather than free-spooling, or the branch lines tangle.
- Lift, then hold — Raise the rod smoothly through three to five winds, then stop dead and hold for five to ten seconds. Squid clasp on the pause and the fall, almost never on the lift. Search in stages until you find the holding depth.
- Never strike — A take registers as sudden extra weight. Lean into it slowly, then wind at one unbroken speed — slack lets a squid off barbless crowns.
- Work the light edge — Hold the rig at the boundary between lit water and dark rather than in the brightest patch.
- Match stick count to conditions — SR131 (3 sticks, 3.4 m) suits shallow ground, small boats and light rods. SR132 and SR133 spread five and seven sticks for deeper water and multiple hook-ups. SR134 and SR135 sit between at 8.4 m — single crowns where squid are small, doubles where they run big.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Sotong (bigfin reef squid) and cuttlefish on night candat sotong trips from Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian ports, over reef edges and wrecks.
- North America — Market squid on Pacific night boats, and squid taken deliberately for fresh bait before rockfish, halibut and tuna trips.
- Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika, yariika and surume-ika on the boat doutsuki system these models were designed for, plus aoriika where they overlap.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid from boats and deep jetties; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid on Mediterranean night grounds.
