HAYABUSA - CUSTOM OTOTO 11CM DOUBLE HOOK TRIPLE APPEAL (3/5PCS SET) - CANDAT SOTONG - SQUID HOOK
Hayabusa Custom Ototo 11cm Double Hook Triple Appeal Squid Stick Set
This is a squid rig, not a fish lure — a ready-tied set of 11cm stick sutte on a dropper leader, made for vertical squid fishing from a boat. It belongs to the same Ototo / Pikaichi stick family Hayabusa builds its boat-squid range around: a slim, fish-shaped translucent body with double-layer crown hooks at the tail, tied onto branch lines so several sticks fish at different depths on one drop. "Triple Appeal" is Hayabusa's own designation for this custom body finish. Two set options are stocked, A3 and A4. Use it wherever candat sotong, kensaki-ika or calamari are worked under lights.
Key Features
- Ready-tied squid dropper set — leader, branch lines and sticks assembled
- 11cm stick sutte in the fish-shaped "ototo" profile
- Double-layer crown hooks for two levels of catching points on every stick
- Hayabusa "Triple Appeal" custom body finish
- Two set options: A3 and A4
- Barbless crown points, so squid release cleanly at the boat
- Rigs directly above a sinker or a weighted metal squid jig
How To Fish It
- Rig it vertically — Main line to the swivel at the top, sinker or weighted metal squid jig at the bottom. Lower under control rather than free-spooling, or the branch lines tangle around each other on the way down.
- Lift, then hold — Raise the rod smoothly through three to five winds, then stop dead and hold for five to ten seconds. Squid clasp on the pause and on the fall, almost never on the lift. If nothing happens, move up a few metres and repeat until you find the holding depth.
- Never strike — A take registers as sudden extra weight, or a tip that does not spring back. Lean into it slowly to load the rod, then wind at one unbroken speed all the way up. Do not pump: slack line is how squid come off barbless crowns.
- Fish the light edge — Hold the set at the boundary between the lit water and the dark rather than in the brightest patch, which is where squid sit to ambush bait.
- Swap when they follow but will not commit — Squid that shadow the sticks without closing usually respond to a change of pattern or a longer pause rather than a faster rhythm.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Sotong (bigfin reef squid) and cuttlefish on night candat sotong trips from Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian ports, worked over reef edges, wrecks and deep jetty ground.
- North America — Market squid on Pacific night boats, and squid taken deliberately for fresh bait before rockfish, halibut and tuna sessions.
- Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika, yariika and surume-ika on the boat doutsuki dropper system, plus aoriika where the ranges overlap.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid from boats and deep jetties; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid on Mediterranean and Atlantic night grounds.
