Decoy Y-S82 Treble Hook — Made In Japan

The Y-S82 is the Y-S81 rebuilt for offshore casting. The hooking character is unchanged — long straight points on a long taper, a long throat, a barb laid at a low angle — but the wire is thicker and the size range begins where the Y-S81 stops. Katsuichi nominate it for tuna, hiramasa (yellowtail amberjack) and small to medium GT: the fish that straighten an ordinary treble rather than shaking it out. Throat depth matters here: a fish that has taken a popper deep works the hook against its jaw for the whole fight, and a deep throat is what stops the point levering free. Solid System welding joins the three legs so the hook cannot twist open under sustained drag, the Smart Eye takes a heavy split ring, and tin plating with Aqua Block treatment suits a hook that lives in salt spray.

How To Rig It

• Rebuilding a casting plug — Change both hangers together and match the split rings. A heavy treble on one hanger alone pulls a stickbait off its line.
• Popping and long-cast stickbaiting — This hook expects you to set it. Wind the slack out until the rod loads against the fish, then sweep long and low rather than snapping upward.
• Check float balance first — Thicker wire sits a floating popper deeper and slows its rise. Swim the plug beside the boat first, and drop a size if the head stops popping cleanly.
• Against the Y-S81 — Same straight-point, long-throat design, one step up in wire and two in size. Y-S81 runs #8 to #1/0 for shore and inshore plugging; the Y-S82 starts at #2/0. Use the Y-S81 on leaders to about 60 lb, the Y-S82 above that.
