The Worm19 S.S. Hook is a finesse offset worm hook made specifically for spinning tackle and small soft baits. Small offset hooks have a well-known weakness: they hook badly. There is little leverage, the wire is short, and a light rod driving a light line rarely generates enough force to bury the point. Decoy's answer was to redesign the shape so no hookset power is lost on the way to the point, which means the hook can be set with light force on light tackle without giving up hooking ability. The second half of the problem is the bait itself — a small worm changes its action according to the weight of the hook alone, so the Worm19 is kept light enough not to kill the movement it is carrying. It is built for every light rig fished on spinning gear: split shot, drop shot, jig head trailer, small Texas and no-sinker presentations.

How To Rig It

• Texas-style weedless — Enter the worm's nose, thread down about the width of the hook eye, exit, slide the worm up over the eye, rotate the hook and bury the point back into the body. Hold the worm alongside the hook first to check the exit point so the bait hangs straight.
• Drop shot — Tie a palomar with a long tag, pass the tag back down through the eye so the hook stands out from the line, then attach the sinker. Shake in place with a slack line and let the worm quiver on the spot.
• Split shot — Pinch a shot 30–60 cm ahead of the hook and drag it slowly across the bottom, pausing often. The distance between shot and bait lets the worm swim free while the shot keeps contact.
• Setting the hook — Do not slam it. Reel down to the fish until you feel weight, then lean into the rod and let the shape do its job — that is what this hook was designed around.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) on small worms around reservoir rock, peacock bass in clear water, and light estuary work for mangrove jack and small barramundi (siakap).
• North America — Its natural home: largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass on drop shot and split shot, plus crappie and perch on the smaller sizes.
• Japan & East Asia — Pressured reservoir black bass on light line, and rockfish such as mebaru and kasago on a small weedless worm around structure.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass and bream on finesse plastics in estuaries; perch and zander on drop shot in European lakes, canals and rivers.

Specifications

Katsuichi's own listing does not spell out what the letters S.S. stand for; the model is described simply as a spinning-dedicated finesse offset hook. Made in Japan by Katsuichi.
