Decoy WORM123 DS Hook Masubari

The WORM123 DS Hook is Decoy's dedicated down shot masubari — a small hook married to a twin-eye swivel so the assembly rotates instead of your line. It is built around Decoy's own Body Hook Worm23, and the swivel system holds the point reliably upward, keeps the worm sitting level, and lets the bait turn naturally on the fall and the shake while cutting line twist well below what a plain nose-hooked worm produces. Unlike Decoy's heavy DS system, this one is tuned for light line — 1 to 4 lb test — and uses a standard dual-eye swivel style specifically so the sinker tag does not break off on the cast.

How To Rig It

• Building the down shot rig — Tie the main line to the upper eye. Run a 15–60 cm tag out of the lower eye and attach the sinker to it. The hook now sits above the weight with the point up: the lead touches bottom, the bait hovers.
• Nose hooking the worm — Pass the point through the nose of a straight-tail worm, in one side and out the other about 3–5 mm back from the tip. Leave the body free to swing; never thread it onto the shank.
• Shaking on the spot — The core technique. Rest the sinker on the bottom, take up slack, and shake only the rod tip. The lead never moves; the worm quivers in place in front of the fish. Pause several seconds between shakes.
• Dragging and hopping — Between shakes, pull the sinker 20–30 cm along the bottom, then stop and shake again to search a flat or rock pile.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Hampala barb (sebarau) on reservoir points, peacock bass and small snakehead (haruan) in clear canals, and small grouper (kerapu) on light gear off jetties.
• North America — The classic drop shot fishery: largemouth and smallmouth bass on deep points, bluffs and offshore rock, plus crappie, walleye and perch.
• Japan & East Asia — Black bass on high-pressure reservoirs where the down shot rig originated, and light saltwater game for mebaru and kasago.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass and estuary bream on deep structure; perch and zander in European lakes, canals and gravel pits.

• Light or medium-light spinning rod with a soft tip, so you can shake the bait without moving the sinker
• 1–4 lb fluorocarbon direct, or PE 0.3–0.6 braid with a 3–5 lb fluorocarbon leader
• Tungsten drop shot sinkers of 1.8–7 g, sized up in wind, current or deep water
• 2–4 inch straight-tail and pin-tail worms on #4–#6; #3 for larger finesse bodies
