The Worm117 HD Hook Offset is the offset hook in Decoy's heavy down-shot (hebi-dan) system, built on the Kilo Hook Worm17 blank. Compared with a standard drop shot it holds the worm in a more horizontal posture, the attitude bass respond to when they are looking at a bait rather than chasing it. The system's real point is the leader: because the drop line to the sinker can run lighter than the main line, a snagged weight breaks off on its own and you keep the hook, the bait and the fish. That is what lets you fish a down-shot rig into timber and brush most anglers steer around.

How To Rig It

• Heavy down shot (hebi-dan) — Tie the hook with a palomar, leaving a long tag with the point facing up. Run the tag back through the eye from the top so the hook stands proud, then join a lighter drop line and hang the sinker below. Sized right, the drop line gives up the sinker, not the rig.
• Weedless finish — Enter the nose, push through the width of the eye, rotate 180 degrees and set the point back into the body so it sits flush. Cover fishing only works if the point is truly buried.
• Standing timber and brush — Drop the rig down the trunk, let the weight find bottom, then shake the tip without lifting the sinker. The worm shivers in place at the fish's level.
• Setting the hook — Wind down until you feel the fish, then sweep. With heavy wire buried in a thick body, a deliberate load beats a snap.

Target Species By Region

• Southeast Asia — Peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau) around submerged timber, giant snakehead (toman) in flooded forest edges, and barramundi (siakap) on structure and jetty pilings.
• North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass fished down-shot into standing timber, brush piles and rip-rap, plus crappie holding tight to submerged cover.
• Japan & East Asia — Black bass in reservoirs and dam lakes, where the heavy down-shot approach was developed for timber and brush ordinary drop shot tackle cannot reach.
• Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian bass and saratoga around snags; zander, perch and pike on down-shot rigs in European reservoirs and canals.
