Decoy SV-33 Pentagon Head Jig Head — Made In Japan
The SV-33 Pentagon Head is a saltwater jig head named for its five-sided head, and Katsuichi are explicit about the shape: it gives a stable swimming balance and a stable landing posture. Flat faces bed the head down on a fixed plane when it touches bottom, rather than letting a rounded head roll over and pull the soft plastic onto its side. Two eyelets then extend what one head can do: rigged from the main eye it uses that settling behaviour for bottom work — lift and fall for flatfish and rockfish, from a boat or off deeper breakwaters — while the front eye casts furthest for long-range searching and leaves the main eye free to carry a support treble or double hook. The store carries the two heavier sizes, #5/0 at 21 g and 28 g, in W Nickel, two heads per pack.
Key Features
- Pentagon (five-sided) head for stable swimming balance and a repeatable landing posture
- Two eyelets — main eye and front eye — for two different rigging methods
- Main eye: bottom-focused lift and fall for flatfish and rockfish
- Front eye: maximum casting distance, leaving the main eye free for a treble or double support hook
- Heavy #5/0 hook matched to 21 g and 28 g heads
- W Nickel finish; two heads per pack
How To Rig It
- Choosing the eye — Decide before you tie. Main eye for vertical and short-cast bottom work where posture matters; front eye when the fish are beyond comfortable casting range and you are covering water.
- Lift and fall on the main eye — Drop to the bottom, lift the rod smoothly to about 10 o'clock, then follow the lure down on a controlled line. Touch bottom again, pause a beat, repeat. Flatfish and rockfish take it on the fall or in the pause immediately after it lands.
- Long-cast search on the front eye — Cast, count down to depth, then wind steadily with occasional twitches. At 21 g and 28 g the head holds line contact in current that would sweep a lighter one away.
- Adding a support hook — When fish nip the tail of a large shad, clip a treble or double to the spare eye. Expect more snags over rock, so save it for clean bottom.
- Bait choice — A #5/0 hook wants a 4–6 inch shad or grub, threaded dead straight down the shank. A bait pulled on crooked will spin and cancel out the balance the head is built for.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Grouper (kerapu) and snapper over deeper reef edges, barramundi (siakap) off river-mouth drop-offs, and queenfish or trevally on a long cast from breakwaters.
- North America — Fluke and summer flounder over sand, striped bass and redfish on jetty edges, plus lingcod and larger Pacific rockfish on the drop.
- Japan & East Asia — The home use: hirame and magochi on flatfish game, plus hata and soi on rockfish tackle from boats and deep breakwaters.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Flathead and mulloway over Australian sand; hamour and cobia in the Gulf; turbot, bass and pollack on European banks and harbour walls.

Recommended Pairing
- Seabass or light shore jigging rod around 9–10 ft rated to roughly 40 g, with a 3000–4000 reel
- PE 1.0–1.5 braid to a 20–30 lb fluorocarbon leader
- 4–6 inch shad tails and grubs; keep the body straight on the shank
- Where the SV-32 Tank Head holds a crab upright on rip-rap and the SV-34 S.G. Head is the all-round swimmer, the SV-33 is the two-eye heavyweight; step down to the SV-61 Salt Special when 21 g is more than the depth needs
