Decoy SV-32 Tank Head Jig Head — Made In Japan
The SV-32 Tank Head is a bottom-pattern head built for imitating crustaceans rather than baitfish. Katsuichi designed it around crab patterns on rip-rap and mantis shrimp patterns that stir sand and silt off a soft bottom to draw chinu (black sea bream), and the head shape is the reason it works: it is made to settle in a fixed, stable landing posture on contact instead of rolling over, so the soft plastic sits nose-down and claws-up the way a crab holds ground. Where a round head is neutral, the Tank Head is about the moment the lure stops. The hook is heavy and sharp, specified not to be crushed by a chinu and still to penetrate, and the same combination works on rockfish and grouper. NS Black plating, four per pack.
Key Features
- Head shaped for a stable, repeatable landing posture on the bottom
- Built for crab patterns on rip-rap and mantis shrimp patterns on sand and silt
- Strong, sharp hook specified to resist crushing by chinu
- NS Black (black nickel) plating
- Four heads per pack
- Factory range: #4 at 2.5, 3.5 and 5 g; #2 at 3.5, 5 and 7 g
- Also effective on crab-feeding rockfish and grouper
How To Rig It
- Rig the crab to stand — Thread a crab or craw body so the claws sit upward when the head lies flat. The point of the Tank Head is the posture it holds once it lands, so check how it settles beside the boat first.
- Cast, sink, wait — For chinu, cast onto rip-rap or a sand edge, drop it on a controlled line, then leave it still. Most takes come while it is motionless.
- Silt puffs — On soft bottom, twitch the rod tip sharply once or twice so the head kicks up a small cloud, then stop. That is the mantis shrimp pattern, and the pause is where the bite happens.
- Short drags on rock — Over rip-rap, drag 20–30 cm at a time and let it re-settle. Feel for the head hitting rock and stopping; that is where you want the bait sitting.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Estuary grouper (kerapu) and rock cod on breakwaters, mangrove jack over oyster-covered rock, and sand whiting or small trevally on shallow flats.
- North America — Sheepshead, black drum and redfish around jetty rock and bridge rubble; smallmouth bass on a craw over gravel; Pacific rockfish.
- Japan & East Asia — The home use: chinu (kurodai) on crab and mantis shrimp patterns off rip-rap, plus kasago on rock game tackle.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream on Australian breakwalls; hamour and sea bream over Gulf rubble; gilthead bream, wrasse and small bass on European harbour walls.
