Decoy KR-32 Circle Light Black Nickel / Red Hook — Made In Japan
The KR-32 Circle Light is a circle hook built on light wire, and that combination is the point of it. A circle works by geometry: the point turns back toward the shank rather than standing parallel to it, so it will not drive into whatever it touches. Under steady pull it slides until the shank reaches the jaw hinge, then rotates and takes hold there, from the outside in. Most circles are heavy bottom-fishing tools; this is a sharp, fine-wire circle for bait and live-bait work on light tackle. Thin wire penetrates on the modest, steady load that fine line and a light drag can apply, where a thick-wire circle would be dragged out. It leaves a smaller wound and lets a live bait swim instead of being anchored by hardware. Black nickel or red, eight sizes from #1 to #6/0.
Key Features
- Circle geometry — sets in the jaw corner without a strike
- Light wire that penetrates under low, steady load on fine tackle
- Corrosion-resistant black nickel finish
- Also offered in red, so the hook reads as part of the bait
- Eight sizes, #1 to #6/0
- Greatly reduces gut-hooking, so released fish survive better
How To Rig It
- The set is made by the reel, not the rod — Leave the rod where it is when the line moves. Start winding and keep winding, letting the fish's own movement load the hook until the rod bends into it. A reflex lift pulls a circle straight out of an open mouth, which is why anglers new to circles miss everything for a session. On light wire it costs more: a hard swing on 4 lb line breaks off or straightens the hook. Set the drag light enough to give line but firm enough to hold constant tension.
- Keep the point and gap clear — Pin a live bait through the nose or top of the back in a single pass, or a strip through one end. A circle buried in bait cannot rotate.
- Snell it — A snell keeps the pull in line with the shank, which is what makes the hook rotate correctly. Tying to the eye alone lets it cock over.
- Colour choice — Black nickel disappears; red reads as a wound or gill flare on prawn and cut baits in coloured water.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Live-baiting for barramundi (siakap), mangrove jack and grouper (kerapu) around jetties and river mouths; whiting and small snapper on lighter beach rigs.
- North America — Speckled trout, redfish, striped bass and snook on live and cut bait; catfish and inshore sharks, where circles are often required for release.
- Japan & East Asia — Madai and kurodai on light bait rigs, kasago and small hata on live prawn from breakwaters.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, flathead and school mulloway in Australian estuaries, where circles are standard for catch and release; small hamour and emperor in the Gulf; bass and smoothhound on European shore marks.

Model KR-32 Circle Light. Black Nickel SKUs 499130101 / 104 / 105 / 106; Red SKUs 49913151, 49913152, 499131501–499131506. Made in Japan by Katsuichi (Decoy).
Recommended Pairing
- #1–#2/0 with small live baits, prawn and strip on 6–15 lb tackle, estuary and jetty
- #3/0–#6/0 with larger live and cut baits on 15–30 lb inshore tackle
- Fluorocarbon leader snelled to the shank, kept supple so the bait swims
- A moderate, forgiving rod action helps — a fast, stiff tip encourages the reflex strike that circle hooks punish
- Where the Hinotsu CH-1 and CH-2 and the Anglar 4215 are heavier circles for bottom and prawn work, the KR-32 is the fine-wire choice for light line and released fish
