DECOY - DJ-91 LIGHT/MICRO GAME ASSIST HOOK MADE IN JAPAN
Decoy DJ-91 Light / Micro Game Assist Hook — Made In Japan
The DJ-91 Light Game Assist is the smallest link in Decoy's light assist range, designed specifically for metal jigs in the 2–10 g class — micro jigging from a breakwater, a small boat or a harbour wall. Two design points make it work at that size. The shank is short and the eye is vertical, so the hook sits tight against a jig body that is only a few centimetres long instead of hanging awkwardly off it. And because it sits that close, it can be used two ways: as a front assist in the usual position, or mounted at the rear as the jig's main hook. Katsuichi rate it for snag resistance and holding power, which is the point of a micro jig rig — you want to work the bottom for rockfish without leaving the jig there, and you want short-biting fish to stay on. NS Black finish, in #S, #M and #L, six per pack.
This is the micro end of a full gradient. The DJ-91 covers 2–10 g; the DJ-90 Light Assist steps up to light casting jigs and small pelagics; the DJ-93 Light Game Twin is a twin built around the 28 g class; and the DJ-81 Powerful Assist and DJ-82 Twin Assist are the offshore rigs in #M to #LL.
Key Features
- Assist hook designed specifically for 2–10 g metal jigs
- Short shank and vertical eye for a close fit against a small jig body
- Usable as a front assist or as the main hook mounted at the rear
- Snag resistance for working the bottom, with holding power against drop-offs
- NS Black (black nickel) finish
- Three sizes — #S, #M, #L — six per pack
How To Rig It
- Front assist — Hang it on the jig's nose ring for a standard micro jigging setup. Cast or drop, then work short lifts with a controlled fall; the fall is where most bites come.
- Rear as the main hook — Fitting it at the tail instead of a treble gives a cleaner rig for bottom work and an easier release. Useful when fish are following and nipping the back of the jig.
- Working the bottom — Let the jig touch down, take up two turns, then lift and drop in the lower metre of water. This is where mebaru, kasago and small grouper sit, and where a treble would cost you jigs.
- Size to the jig — #S for the lightest jigs at the 2–4 g end, #M as the general choice, #L when the jig is nearer 10 g or the fish are bigger than the tackle suggests.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Small grouper (kerapu), fingermark, kembung (Indian mackerel), small trevally and squid-feeding predators around jetty legs, rock walls and harbour lights.
- North America — Rockfish, black sea bass, porgy, small striped bass and speckled trout on micro jigs off jetties, piers and inshore structure.
- Japan & East Asia — The home use: micro jigging and light game for mebaru and kasago, aji (horse mackerel), and small migratory fish such as young buri and kanpachi.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, flathead and small snapper off Australian breakwalls; small hamour and queenfish in the Gulf; pollack, wrasse and mackerel on European rock marks.
