AMERICAN TACKLE - SINGLE FOOT RING LOCK FLY GUIDE CHROME 64DCRLF FISHING ROD GUIDE
American Tackle Single Foot Ring Lock Fly Guide Chrome 64DCRLF
Within American Tackle's 64 Ring Lock family this is the fly-rod entry point: a single-foot guide with a chrome-finish Dura ring, sold one guide at a time in 5, 8 and 10 mm, and the only one of the three fly models here that goes down to 5 mm. Ring Lock is American Tackle's patented ring seat (US Patent D627,032), which the maker describes as a pressure-fit design with an enlarged glue reservoir and increased contact area around the ring, intended to stop rings popping out and to shrug off knocks. The single foot matters on a fly rod: one wrap instead of two means less thread, less epoxy and less dead weight on a blank that has to load and unload through a full casting stroke.
Key Features
- Single-foot frame — one wrap per guide, minimum added mass on the blank
- Ring Lock pressure-fit ring seat with enlarged glue reservoir (US Patent D627,032)
- Chrome-finish Dura ring, the hard-wearing everyday ring in this range
- Three ring sizes: 5, 8 and 10 mm
- Model 64DCRLF, SKUs coded by ring size
How To Build With It
- Sizing the train — Run 10 mm nearest the grip where the line still carries coil off the reel, step to 8 mm through the mid-section, then 5 mm toward the tip so the line is near straight before the tip top.
- Spacing a single-foot rod — Start at about one guide per foot of blank plus one, tape them on and flex the rod under a hanging weight. Slide guides until the line hugs the curve with no flat spot.
- Wrapping a single foot — File the foot ramp thin so the thread climbs without a step, and burnish the wrap before finishing. A single foot relies on the whole wrap, so leave no gaps.
- Finishing — Two thin coats of rod-building epoxy beat one thick coat; excess finish on a fly blank is weight in the wrong place.
