This is the A frame member of the 64 Ring Lock family, with a Nano ring in a chrome stainless frame. An A frame guide has two feet that rise and cross into a single apex, so the ring is braced from both sides instead of hanging off one leg. That triangle is what resists sideways twist: when a fish runs across the boat, or a heavy sinker swings on the drop, the load is split between two wrap positions on the blank rather than concentrated at one. It is the frame to pick when the rod will be pulled from angles it was never cast at. The ring sits in American Tackle's patented Ring Lock seat (US Patent D627,032), a pressure-fit ring in an enlarged glue reservoir. Eight sizes are stocked, 6 mm to 30 mm.

How To Build With It

• Where the A frame earns its place — Use it on blanks that get side-loaded: boat rods, jigging and popping builds, heavy shore casters. Single-foot guides suit a rod that only bends in one plane.
• Wrapping two feet — File both feet to a long, thin taper so thread climbs the ramp without a step. Check the guide sits flat with no rocking, and wrap each foot separately rather than bridging.
• Reduction from a 30 mm stripper — Run 30 to 25 to 20 to 16 mm over the first third of the blank, then hold 12, 10, 8 and 6 mm to the tip. Dropping two sizes at a jump piles friction into one guide.
• Static test before epoxy — Tape the train, hang a weight from the tip, and shift guides until the line follows the curve with no flat spot. Seal with two thin coats of two-part rod-building epoxy.
