AMERICAN TACKLE - HARD 3FT RING GUIDE BLACK 64HLC FISHING ROD GUIDE
American Tackle Hard 3FT Ring Guide Black 64HLC
This is a rod-building component, not a finished rod: a single American Tackle 64HLC guide in black, sold individually in seven ring sizes from 6 mm to 30 mm. The "3FT" refers to a three-foot frame — three legs bonded to the blank instead of two. American Tackle uses the same three-leg layout in its high-frame guide range, which the maker describes as suited to medium to heavy spinning and casting rods. The reasoning is simple: a third leg spreads the load of a hard cast or a heavy fish over more of the blank and resists the sideways twist that flattens a two-leg frame.
Key Features
- Three-foot (three-leg) frame for load spread and lateral stability
- Seven ring sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 25 and 30 mm
- Black finish across the range
- Sold individually by size, so a train can be built exactly to a blank
- Covers stripper guides and small running guides on the same rod
- Model 64HLC, with SKUs coded by ring size
How To Build With It
- Choosing the stripper — On spinning builds the 25 mm and 30 mm sizes go closest to the reel, so the line cone off the spool is collected without slapping the frame. Casting builds start smaller.
- Stepping the train down — Work down through 16, 12 and 10 mm along the blank, then run 8 mm and 6 mm to the tip so line reaches a near-straight path before the tip top.
- Guide count and spacing — Fit roughly one guide per foot of blank plus one, then confirm by static test: hang a weight from the tip and slide the taped guides until the line follows the curve with no flat spot.
- Wrapping and finishing — File the foot ramps so thread climbs cleanly, then wrap all three feet and seal with two thin coats of rod-building epoxy rather than one thick one.
