The Pata Pata-Q is the fin-equipped egi in the Yo-Zuri / DUEL squid jig range. Its Pata Pata fin flutters under water pressure, adding a fine wave motion on top of the body's darting action, so the jig keeps signalling even when barely moving — the moment a following squid has stopped short and is deciding. DUEL's own testing measured a 10% reduction in jerking resistance against comparable models. This #2.5 size weighs 10 g with a published sink rate of 5.0 seconds per metre, a controlled fall suiting shallow weed beds and lit jetties.

How To Fish It

• Cast and sink count — Let the jig fall on a controlled slack line while counting seconds. At 5.0 seconds per metre, a ten count puts it around two metres down; adjust until you find the layer holding squid, then repeat that count every cast.
• Whipping (shakuri) cadence — With the tip low, snap the rod sharply upward two to four times so the jig darts and the fin flutters, then stop dead. Squid take on the fall that follows, not the jerk — the pause is what catches fish.
• Manage the slack line — Drop the tip after each jerk series and keep only a gentle bow. If it stops falling, jumps or drifts sideways, sweep into it rather than striking — squid tentacles tear.
• Shore versus boat — From shore, fan cast across weed beds, harbour walls and rock edges on a running tide. On a boat, tip-run it: drop to the bottom, lift twice, then hold still and let the jig swing back on the drift, watching the tip load or go light.
