Yozuri Egi Aurie-Q LC 3.0 Long Casting A1765 Squid Jig — 17 g

LC stands for Long Cast, and the point of this model is distance. A standard #3.0 egi runs around 14 to 16 g; the Aurie-Q LC carries 17 g in the same size class, with a streamlined, rear-weighted body that keeps its nose forward in flight instead of tumbling. That extra mass buys the water nobody else is covering — the far side of a weed bed, the seam past a jetty end, the outside of a rock ledge — and holds a straight cast into a headwind that would balloon a lighter jig. Despite the weight the fall is measured: Yo-Zuri publishes 3.7 sec/m, so the jig sinks with purpose but still gives squid time to commit. A dorsal fin steadies the swim and doubles as a bite indicator.

Key Features

  • Long-cast body: streamlined, rear-weighted profile for distance and wind penetration
  • Size #3.0 at 17 g, heavier than a standard jig of the same size
  • Published sink rate of 3.7 sec/m — fast enough for depth, controlled enough to draw a take
  • Dorsal stabiliser fin that also serves as a bite indicator
  • Trick Hook Round crowns — straight-type hook recovery from snags, round shape to resist pull-outs
  • Cloth-wrapped body over an ABS resin core
  • Fourteen colour codes across luminous, UV and natural finishes

How To Fish It

  • Cast long, fish the whole retrieve — The reason to throw 17 g is the ground beyond normal range, so work it all the way back rather than winding in the last twenty metres. Squid often take close to the rod.
  • Punch into wind and tide — On an onshore breeze or a running tide, keep the rod tip low through the cast and low through the retrieve. The extra weight holds the fall angle where a light jig would be lifted and swept off line.
  • Count at 3.7 seconds per metre — A twenty count puts the jig a little over five metres down. Work down in layers, and once a squid takes, repeat that count exactly.
  • Hard shakuri, dead pause, sweep — Three to five sharp snaps to dart the jig wide, then drop the tip and let it settle. If the line stops early or drifts sideways, lean into it and wind under steady tension — squid hold with their arms and a hard strike tears them off.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Candat sotong for bigfin reef squid (sotong torak) and cuttlefish (sotong katak) from breakwaters, jetty ends and night boats where the tide runs hard.
  • North America — Market squid off California piers and harbour walls, reaching past the crowd of shorter casts on a busy night.
  • Japan & East Asia — Shore eging for aoriika from open rock and surf beaches where distance decides the session; also fished in Korea and Taiwan.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari over wide seagrass flats in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, where the fish sit beyond an ordinary cast; European squid off Mediterranean and Atlantic breakwaters.

Specifications

Model Size Weight Sink Rate Hooks Body

Colour codes: BLBB, BLGA, KGOV, KVDB, KVOG, KVRA, KVRP, LBI, LC, LMBI, LP, SBOI, SBPI, ZLOG. SKU prefix 31A1765. For comparison within the range, the Aurie-Q RS A1584 #3.0 is 16 g at 3.0 sec/m, and the Aurie-Q Cloth A1030 #2.5 is 10 g at roughly 5.3 sec/m — weight and fall speed are separate axes, and the LC pairs high mass with a moderate rate.

Recommended Pairing

  • Egi rod of 8'6" to 9' rated to at least 30 g, with backbone to load and throw 17 g
  • 2500–3000 spinning reel with PE 0.6–0.8 braid for casting distance
  • Fluorocarbon leader of roughly 12–16 lb, about a rod length
  • Long-handled squid net; on long casts, keep tension right to the net
