Yamashita Oppai Sutte 7-2 UV / 7-2 GLOW 7 cm Squid Bait

This is the large end of Yamashita's Oppai Sutte range: a 7 cm cloth-wrapped body with a renewed colour line-up, offered in UV and GLOW versions. Where the 3.8 / 5.0 and micro bodies are branch-line teasers, a 7 cm Oppai is big enough to work the main position on a squid rig — the bait a squid commits to rather than inspects. Yamashita's own note on the pattern is that the soft material closes the deal: once squid grab it, they continue grabbing it instead of releasing on first touch. The extra volume also gives the sutte presence in current, coloured water and depth, where a small body disappears.

The two finishes cover different hours. The UV models — Keimura (K) and Pink (P) bodies — reflect ultraviolet and are most useful in daytime and clear water. The GLOW models — Green (F) and Blue (490) — are for night fishing and muddy water, with the 490 blue glow aimed at deep water.

Key Features

  • 7 cm body — the main-position size in the Oppai Sutte range
  • Soft body: once squid grab it, they keep hold instead of letting go
  • UV colour models reflect ultraviolet, effective in daytime
  • GLOW colour models for night fishing and muddy water
  • 490 blue glow bodies aimed at deep-water visibility
  • Twelve colours across four body groups: Keimura, Pink, Green and Blue

How To Fish It

  • Main bait on a boat squid rig — Run the 7 cm in the bottom position with a sinker or lead sutte below it and smaller sutte on branch lines above. It is the largest silhouette on the rig and does the attracting.
  • Tataki and stop — Drop to the bottom, shake the rod tip firmly for two or three seconds while lifting, then stop dead for five to ten seconds. A big body needs a harder shake than a micro sutte, and the take comes in the stillness after it.
  • Go large when squid are big or water is dirty — Where the run is bigger squid, or river push has coloured the water, start at 7 cm and downsize only if touches are not converting.
  • Charge glow between drops — Hold the F and 490 bodies under the deck light or a UV torch for 20–30 seconds before each drop and again whenever the glow fades.
  • Wind, do not pump — Squid hold a large body rather than the prongs, so they drop off easily. Keep constant load and one steady retrieve speed to the net.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Larger sotong (bigfin reef squid) and cuttlefish on night boat trips over reef edges, wrecks and lit anchorages from Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian ports.
  • North America — Humboldt squid on deep Pacific night trips, where a large glow body is the practical choice, plus market squid on shallower charters.
  • Japan & East Asia — Surume-ika, kensaki-ika and yariika on boat sutte rigs, and aoriika where the drift is too deep or fast for shore eging tackle.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid from boats; cuttlefish on Gulf marks; European squid and cuttlefish on Atlantic and Mediterranean night grounds.

Recommended Pairing

  • Boat squid or ika-metal rod rated for the sinker weight you fish; PE 0.6–1.0 braid with a 2–3 m fluorocarbon leader

  • 3 号 fluorocarbon branch lines if you add smaller sutte above
  • Pair one UV and one GLOW colour on the same rig and let the squid choose
