Yamashita Oppai Sutte 0.8 cm / 1.2 cm Squid Hook / Squid Jig

These are the micro sizes of Yamashita's Oppai Sutte — bodies of 0.8 cm and 1.2 cm, small enough to sit on a fingertip. At this scale the sutte is not the thing that catches the squid's eye from a distance. It is the thing that convinces a squid already following the rig. On a short branch line, a micro Oppai gives a squid that keeps touching and letting go something it can wrap up completely — which is why they come out on pressured ground, in clear water, and late in a session.

Two finishes cover the two lighting problems. The GLOW colours (APF, AOF, RHF) charge under a deck light or UV torch and hold a soft green afterglow for the drop — night work, deep water, and squid that are sitting well below the boat's light. The KEIMURA colours (MIKM, AJKM, SEKM) are purple-reactive: they take ultraviolet and re-emit it, which reads as a faint glow to squid in daylight, at dawn and dusk, and in clear water where a full glow body can look artificial.

Key Features

  • Micro cloth-bodied sutte in 0.8 cm and 1.2 cm
  • Six colours split between GLOW and KEIMURA (UV-reactive) finishes
  • Unweighted — rides on a branch line, driven by the weight of the rig
  • Soft body squid hold onto rather than release on contact
  • Small crown of prongs sized to the body, so light gear still sets it

How To Fish It

  • Dropper above an ika-metal jig — Tie a 15–25 cm fluorocarbon branch 40–60 cm above the metal. The jig does the work; the micro sutte sits just above it, in the squid's eyeline as it follows the lure up.
  • The finesse swap — When squid are touching a 3.8 or 5.0 cm sutte and not committing, change that branch to a 1.2 cm and leave everything else alone. Downsizing the dropper is usually the fastest fix.
  • Shake and long pause — Wind up in short bursts with the tip shaking, then hold completely still for eight to ten seconds. Micro bodies do their work on the stop; they are too small to signal much on the move.
  • Sabiki-style multi-rig — Two or three micro sutte on short branches above a sinker fish as a squid sabiki. Keep branches under 20 cm so they cannot foul each other.
  • Recharge the glow — Give the GLOW colours 20–30 seconds under the deck light or a UV torch before every drop. The afterglow fades faster than most anglers expect.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Small sotong and cuttlefish on night boat trips and lit jetties, and as the convincer for squid that have seen pressure all season.
  • North America — Market squid on Pacific night charters, where a small body suits a species that feeds on tiny prey around light lines.
  • Japan & East Asia — Kensaki-ika and yariika on ika-metal rigs; the micro dropper is standard tackle-box equipment for this style.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Southern calamari and arrow squid off jetties and boats; European squid on clear Mediterranean night marks where a large body is refused.
