THE ANGLAR - MS4310 BEAK HOOK PACK FISHING HOOK
The Anglar MS4310 Beak Hook Pack
A beak hook and an octopus hook are the same idea under two names: a short shank, a deep rounded bend, a wide gape and a point that curves inward like a bird’s beak. That shape dominates bait fishing for a reason: the short shank hides inside a prawn, worm or cut strip so the bait looks natural, and the inward-turned point does not need a hard strike — as the fish turns away, the point rides up into the corner of the jaw and sets itself. The MS-4310 is that pattern with a forged body that resists opening, an eagle-cutting point for fast entry, a sharp barb and a deep bend that holds soft bait. The point sits slightly offset from the shank, which raises the chance of a hook-up on a side-on take.
The solid ringed eye takes thick mono and fluorocarbon with no pressed edge to shave a heavy leader, and it snells cleanly. The nickel finish gives moderate corrosion resistance, so rinse and dry after salt water rather than leaving a wet packet in the bag: unlike a stainless hook, a plated one starts to rust once the coating is scratched or the point filed. The trade is the usual one — plated steel holds a harder point, stainless survives neglect.
Key Features
- Beak (octopus-family) profile — short shank, deep rounded bend, inward-curved point
- Reverse/offset point that improves hook-up potential on side-on takes
- Sharp eagle-cutting point with angled cutting edges
- Sharp barb to stop the hook working loose while a fish struggles
- Forged construction for improved strength and resistance to opening
- Solid ringed eye for line, leader and snelled bait rigs
- Deep bend that holds bait securely and keeps contact after the hookset
- Nickel finish; eleven sizes, #10 through #5/0, ten hooks per packet
How To Rig It
- Live or dead prawn — Point once through the last tail segment for a bait that keeps kicking, or thread a peeled prawn up the shank for casting distance. #4–#1 for small prawn, #2/0–#3/0 for large.
- Sandworm and worm baits — Thread a section over the point and up the shank on the #10–#4 sizes, leaving a short tail to move. This is the estuary and jetty rig for croaker, whiting and bream.
- Cut fish and squid strip — Hook the skin side twice so the strip lies straight, and keep the bait no wider than the gape or it will mask the point.
- Paternoster (apollo) or running sinker — Short droppers above a sinker for jetty pilings and reef edges; or a sliding sinker to a swivel and a long leader on sand, so a wary fish moves off before feeling weight.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Croaker (gelama), catfish (duri), whiting and bream on estuary mud; barramundi (siakap) around mangrove and jetty pilings; grouper (kerapu), snapper (ikan merah) and golden snapper (jenahak) on reef in the larger sizes.
- North America — Mangrove and red snapper, grouper and sheepshead on structure, catfish in rivers, and croaker, porgy and perch on piers in the small sizes.
- Japan & East Asia — Dozuki (胴突き) boat dropper rigs for kasago, mebaru and ainame, and bukkomi (ブッコミ) bottom baits from breakwaters for kurodai and anago.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, whiting, flathead and snapper in Australian estuaries; hamour and sheri in the Gulf; cod, pollack, plaice and bass on European beaches and rock marks.
