The Sabiki Apollo lure set is crafted with special fish skin, attractive to a wide range of species, with a luminous glow-in-the-dark finish for low light and night fishing. A sabiki (サビキ) is a Japanese bait rig: one trace, a row of short droppers, a small dressed hook on each, and a bait cage or sinker below.

This is Santec's 320-series fish-skin rig. Fish skin remains the most convincing dressing — translucent, soft, folding the way a baitfish flank does, where feather is bulkier and aurora thread flashes harder without reading as fish. The luminous finish self-emits once charged, which is not the same as a UV finish: UV reflects daylight, glow works where there is none. Against the 4342 skin rig the difference is reach: #4 through #16, one step coarser at the top, so it covers larger baitfish too.

How To Fish It

• Charge it first — Hold a torch on the skins for 20–30 seconds before each drop and each time you wind in; the glow fades with time and depth.
• Set up and chum — Clip the top swivel to your line, hang a bait cage or sinker below to keep the string vertical, lower it to the school, then shake the rod to spread mashed shrimp or krill through the rig.
• Short jigging — Lift the tip 20–40 cm and lower it, repeatedly. The skins flutter on each drop; that draws the strike, not speed.
• Match the size — Use #12 to #16 for sardine and young scad, the #4 to #8 end when kembung and larger scad are running.
• Read the taps, never strike — Bites are continuous light tremors, not one knock. Wind steadily, swing a loaded string in rather than lifting it clear, unhook from the bottom dropper up, and put keepers in an aerated pail as live bait.
