Santec Rolling Swivel 7910

The 7910 is the plain rolling swivel — no snap, no clip, just two eyes and a barrel that turns. It is the connector most rigs are built around: it joins main line to leader, stops a spinning bait or rotating lure from winding twist back into the reel, and gives a running sinker something solid to stop against. Santec supplies it in eleven sizes, #10 up to #5/0 — the widest span in the Santec range.

How To Rig It

• Main line to leader — Braid to the top eye on a Palomar, leader to the bottom eye on a uni. The joint passes through guides more cleanly than a bulky snap.
• Above a running sinker — Thread the sinker on the main line, add a bead, tie the swivel below. The lead runs above the knot, so a fish moving off with the bait feels far less resistance.
• Anything that spins — Fit one ahead of a spinner, a rotating trolled lure or a whole bait. If twist still reaches the reel, add a second swivel a metre up the leader.
• Choosing between 7910 and 7918 — Take the 7910 for size choice and pieces per pack: it runs two sizes smaller (#10) and two larger (#5/0) than the 7918, and holds more pieces at every shared size. Take the 7918 for the black nickel finish and the maker's Japan designation across the #8 to #3/0 working range.
• Sizing — #10 to #6 for light game, #4 to #1 for general estuary and reservoir work, #1/0 up for surf, reef and boat traces.
