HAYABUSA - KINKAI SPECIAL SINGLE/DOUBLE HOOK FS450/FS451 ASSIST HOOK
Hayabusa Kinkai Special Single / Double Assist Hook FS450 & FS451
Kinkai (近海) means near-shore, coastal waters — the ground a day boat reaches inside a few hours, as opposed to deep offshore marks. Hayabusa list the Kinkai Special in their jigging range, and it is the plain working assist hook for that fishery, not a specialist deep-water pattern: pre-tied hook sets you clip to a metal jig's split ring, sized S, M and L to suit the jig rather than by hook number. The hook is Hayabusa's soi short-shank pattern in a white finish — a short, deep-bellied shape that sits close to the jig head and rolls into the jaw, the white coating adding visibility next to the metal. The FS450 Basic Single is one hook per set, three sets to a pack; the FS451 Basic Double is a twin-hook set, two sets to a pack.
Key Features
- Pre-tied assist sets for coastal (kinkai) jigging, ready to clip to a split ring
- Soi short-shank hook pattern in white: compact, deep-bellied, sits close to the jig head
- FS450 single hook, three sets per pack; FS451 double (twin) hook, two sets per pack
- Three sizes, S, M and L, matched to jig size, not hook number
How To Rig It
- Front assist on a metal jig — Open the split ring at the nose of the jig and add the assist set so the hook hangs beside the head. Most jigging bites come at the front, and a front assist keeps the hook clear of the rear where it can foul the leader.
- Single or double — The FS450 single gives a cleaner drop, fewer tangles and less damage to the fish. The FS451 double doubles the chance of contact on a short, half-hearted take — what you want from fish that slap at a jig instead of eating it.
- Slow pitch and high pitch — On slow pitch the jig flutters and fish take it on the fall, so let the assist swing free on the slack. On high pitch, keep contact and set on weight rather than striking hard.
- Check the cord — Assist cord chafes on gill plates and teeth. Replace the set as soon as it fluffs; the cord fails long before the hook.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Coastal and reef jigging off Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines for grouper (kerapu), golden snapper (jenahak), red snapper (merah), cobia, trevally (GT and the smaller cupak), queenfish (talang) and barracuda (alu-alu) around wrecks, pinnacles and rigs.
- North America — Vertical jigging for lingcod, rockfish and halibut on the Pacific coast; amberjack and grouper on Gulf and Atlantic wrecks.
- Japan & East Asia — The home fishery: kinkai boat jigging for buri and hiramasa yellowtail, madai, hirame and large rockfish, on both high pitch and slow pitch tackle.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Samsonfish, kingfish and snapper on Australian reefs; queenfish and grouper (hamour) on Gulf marks; pollack and cod over European wrecks.
