DECOY - SV-52 ROUND MAGIC JIG HEAD MADE IN JAPAN
Decoy SV-52 Round Magic Jig Head — Made In Japan
The SV-52 Round Magic is the plain, no-quirks head in Decoy's light game range. Katsuichi describe it as a basic small jig head with minimal quirks and a well-balanced centre of gravity, so the round head reduces unwanted spiralling and the lure answers the rod faithfully rather than adding a character of its own. That is what a round head is for: the least water resistance of any shape, so it casts far for its weight, sinks fastest per gram, and can be dragged, hopped or swum from any angle without planing off line. The "Magic" is the Magic Keeper, the barbed worm lock used across Decoy's Magic series — it stops a soft plastic sliding under repeated darting while keeping a thin worm's silhouette intact instead of bulking it up, which matters on a 0.9 g head.
Key Features
- Round head — low resistance, fast sink per gram, no unwanted spiralling
- Concentrated centre of gravity for predictable action
- Magic Keeper barbed worm lock that holds without spoiling a slim silhouette
- W Nickel finish; five heads per pack
- Factory range spans #8 to #3, from 0.9 g to 7 g
- Developed around kasago (scorpionfish) and mebaru
How To Rig It
- Round versus shaped heads — Pick the SV-52 when you want the plastic to do the talking. A delta or bullet head adds its own dart or glide; the round head simply gets the bait down and holds a line.
- Rigging the worm — Enter the nose dead square and thread the body straight down the shank so it hangs without a kink, then push it back onto the keeper. A crooked bait will spin.
- Count-down and slow wind — Count down in one-second steps until you find fish, then wind just fast enough to keep contact. At 0.9 g the fall is long and slow, which mebaru follow up.
- Lift and fall, then drag — Work parallel to jetty legs and rip-rap on a semi-slack line; the take is almost always on the fall. For kasago, touch down and drag over rock in short pulls with pauses.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Small grouper (kerapu) and rock cod along breakwaters, mangrove jack and juvenile barramundi (siakap) at jetty lights.
- North America — Crappie, perch and smallmouth bass on a finesse worm; speckled trout and Pacific rockfish around inshore structure.
- Japan & East Asia — The home water: mebaru on mebaring, kasago on rockfishing, aji on ajing tackle when a plain round head beats a darting one.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream and flathead in Australian estuaries; small hamour over Gulf structure; wrasse, pollack and perch on European marks.
