Decoy KR-27 Strong-Mini Hook (Made In Japan)
The KR-27 Strong-Mini answers the one problem every light game angler eventually hits: the fish will only eat a tiny bait, but the fish that eats it is too strong for a tiny hook. A fine wire hook this size goes in easily, then straightens under drag. The KR-27 keeps the short profile that fits a small mouth and a small bait, but is built in heavier, high-strength wire so it holds its shape when a good fish leans on it — the deliberate opposite of the KR-24. Five sizes, #14 to #22, eighteen per pack, black nickel.
Key Features
- Small, short profile that still fits micro baits and small mouths
- Heavy, high-strength wire that resists opening under drag pressure
- Works with micro jigs, small soft plastics and small natural baits
- Five sizes, #14 through #22, eighteen per pack, black nickel; made in Japan
How To Rig It
- Micro jig rear or assist single — Mount on a split ring so it swings; the stronger wire takes a heavier drag than a fine hook this size would.
- Small soft plastic, nose rig — Point in and straight out through the nose so the body hangs free; do not thread the plastic down this short shank.
- Plug single conversion — Replace small trebles on compact hard baits when fish above the lure's class are likely, or where singles are required.
- Small natural bait — A single small shrimp, a short worm section or a piece of squid, hooked once with the point fully exposed.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Trevally, queenfish, fingermark and mangrove jack taking small baits around jetty lights but pulling above their size.
- North America — Smallmouth bass on finesse rigs; speckled trout, redfish and jack crevalle inshore on small profiles.
- Japan & East Asia — Big aji on ajing and large mebaru on mebaring, plus kasago and small kingfish (shiokko) on micro jigs where a fine hook opens up.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, tailor and estuary trevally on light plastics; perch and zander in Europe; small queenfish on Gulf flats.

Choosing within the KR series — by bait, fish size and line class. KR-27 is the small hook in heavy wire. Choose KR-24 Light Special instead when bites, not breakages, are the problem, KR-26 Mini-Worm for tiny worm baits on fine tackle, KR-25 Sandworm for full worm baits, KR-21 Live Bait Light for live shrimp and baitfish, and KR-22 All Purpose when a larger general bait hook suits better.
Recommended Pairing
- Light spinning rod with enough butt to use the hook's strength, 0.3–0.6 PE or 4–10 lb line
- 6–14 lb fluorocarbon leader — heavier than usual light game leader, to match the wire
- 1–7 g jig heads and 10–30 g micro jigs
- Drag can be set firmer than with fine wire hooks — that is the point of this pattern
