Decoy KR-22 All Purpose Hook — Black Nickel, Made In Japan
The KR-22 is the general-duty hook in Decoy's KR series, the Katsuichi light-game singles designed for finesse and bait work rather than heavy jigging. Where the finesse models use fine wire to protect the action of a small bait, the KR-22 is described as a balanced, reinforced bait hook — built for versatility across techniques, higher structural strength than a finesse hook, and reliable hook retention under load. It is the pattern to reach for when one rod might see prawn, cut bait, squid strip and a live minnow in a session. The black nickel finish resists corrosion and keeps the hook dark against a bait, and five sizes are listed, #1 through #5.
Key Features
- All-round bait hook in Decoy's KR series
- Reinforced wire, stronger than a finesse pattern
- Balanced geometry that holds a bait in place under load
- Black nickel finish for corrosion resistance and a low-glare look
- Five sizes: #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5
- Supplied 10 per pack in #1 and #2, 12 per pack in #3, #4 and #5
- Made in Japan by Katsuichi
How To Rig It
- Running sinker bottom rig — Slide a ball sinker to a swivel and run a 40–70 cm fluorocarbon leader to the hook. Fish with the rod tip low so a fish can move off with the bait before you lift into it.
- Paternoster for jetties and boats — Tie one or two droppers above a sinker so the baits sit off the bottom, clear of crabs, and work it above reef edges, pylons and drop-offs.
- Float-fished strip bait — Hook a squid or fish strip once through the thick end so it flutters, and drift it down a current line under a float.
- Baiting for retention — Thread the bait onto the shank rather than hanging it off the point, and leave the point clear. A hook buried in bait costs you the take.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Grunter, snapper, small grouper and trevally around jetties, river mouths and inshore reef, plus catfish and tilapia in fresh water.
- North America — Redfish, black drum, sheepshead, croaker and flounder on cut and shrimp baits, and catfish, perch and panfish in fresh water.
- Japan & East Asia — General boat and pier bait fishing for kasago, mebaru, aji and small madai, and chinu (black seabream) off harbour walls.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, whiting, flathead and tailor in estuaries; hamour and sea bream in the Gulf; wrasse, pollack and mackerel from European shore marks.
