The SN-14 is Decoy's heavy-duty snap, built for anglers who want to change lures quickly without making the connection the weakest link. It is formed from high-grade stainless steel wire into a V profile, with the end section wrap-processed — Katsuichi's Power Grip treatment — so the tip is locked rather than simply resting in place. The V shape resists opening under angled load, and the snap is designed to stretch as a whole under excessive load rather than let the wire pull out of the closure or break outright. Katsuichi publishes a rating for each size, from 60 lb/test at #1 to 150 lb/test at #4, so the snap can be matched to leader class instead of guessed at.

How To Rig It

• Leader straight to snap — Tie the leader with a snug knot such as a Palomar or improved clinch, seated in the bend rather than on the closure, and pick a size rated at or above your leader breaking strain.
• Lure changes on the move — Rotate through minnows, vibes, pencils and metal jigs without re-tying and shortening the leader on every swap.
• Snap to split ring — Clip to the lure's split ring or nose ring so the lure hangs free; a tight moulded eye restricts the swim.
• Check the closure — After a hard fight or a snag, check the wire tip. If it no longer sits fully home, or the V has opened, retire the snap.

• #1 (60 lb) with PE 1–2 and a 20–30 lb leader for seabass, light shore casting and estuary work

• #4 (150 lb) with PE 4–6 and an 80–100 lb leader for reef casting and large predators
