Decoy DJ-95 Mini Assist Twin Hook — Made In Japan

The DJ-95 Mini Assist Twin is the smallest assist rig Decoy make — a twin built for the minimum-size metal jigs used in metal ajing and light rock game. Jigs that small have tricky, unstable action: they flutter, roll and change direction unpredictably, so a fish can arrive from any angle and a single fixed hook is often facing the wrong way. Two hooks side by side solve that, and Katsuichi add what they call a deep-hooking effect — the fish takes the rig well inside the mouth, which keeps soft-mouthed aji attached instead of tearing free. The hooks are hammered aji hooks, the pattern with the longest record on horse mackerel, in a glittering finish and dressed with fibre — which makes the rig an attractor in its own right, looking enough like bait that a fish inhales rather than swipes. W Nickel finish, in #10 and #8, two rigs per pack.

How To Rig It

• Front assist on a micro jig — Fit it to the nose eye on a small split ring. At this size a front assist alone is usually the whole rig; adding a rear treble fouls it on the fall.
• Metal ajing retrieve — Cast, count down to the school, then lift slowly and let the jig fall on a controlled line. Aji take on the fall, and it registers as weight rather than a knock — wind into it instead of striking hard.
• Size to the jig — #10 for the smallest jigs and the most cautious fish, #8 when you want more gape or the fish are running bigger. An oversized hook flattens the flutter a micro jig is bought for.
• Light rock game — Worked slowly along breakwater legs and rubble it takes kasago and small grouper. Keep the fall under tension so the two hooks do not fold over each other.
