Decoy DJ-93 Light Game Twin Hook — Made In Japan
The DJ-93 Light Game Twin is a small twin assist built for shore light game rather than offshore jigging. It uses an original, scaled-down version of Decoy's Pike hook, set inward-facing and parallel in the same configuration as the full-size Twin Pike, which is what gives a hook this small its holding power: two points facing in means a fish that swipes at the tail of a small jig meets metal from either side. Katsuichi match it to jigs around 1 oz (28 g) and to small migratory fish — young buri, frigate mackerel and small mackerel — the schooling fish that come within casting range of a breakwater. It is supplied with a standard split ring already fitted, so it goes straight onto a jig with no extra hardware and no rigging time on the wall. NS Black finish, in #6, #4 and #2, two rigs per pack.
Key Features
- Twin assist in a scaled-down light game size
- Original downsized Pike hook, inward-facing and parallel like the Twin Pike
- Twin configuration for holding power on short, swiping takes
- Standard split ring fitted as supplied
- NS Black (black nickel) finish
- Three sizes — #6, #4 and #2 — two rigs per pack
- Matched by the maker to jigs around 1 oz (28 g)
How To Rig It
- Straight onto the jig — The split ring is already fitted, so open it onto the jig's nose eye. For shore casting a single front assist is usually enough; add a rear treble only where regulations and the fishery allow.
- Match the size to the jig — #2 is the largest of the three and suits the 28 g class the rig is built around; drop to #4 and #6 as the jig gets smaller. An oversized assist on a small jig kills the flutter and tangles on the cast.
- Shore casting — Cast, count down to the school, then work a fast one-pitch retrieve with short pauses. Small pelagics hit on the pause, and the twin catches the fish that swipe rather than eat.
- Light rockfishing — Fished slowly along breakwater legs and rubble, the same rig works on kasago and small grouper on a micro jig. Keep the fall controlled so the two hooks do not fold over each other.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Small trevally, queenfish (talang) and kembung (Indian mackerel) off jetties and breakwaters, plus small barracuda on micro jigs.
- North America — Spanish mackerel, bluefish, small striped bass and jack crevalle from piers and surf; Pacific bonito and barracuda off jetties.
- Japan & East Asia — The home use: shore jigging and light shore jigging for wakashi and inada (young buri), soda-gatsuo and small saba, plus kasago on micro jigs.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian salmon, tailor and small kingfish off rock and breakwalls; small queenfish in the Gulf; mackerel, bass and pollack on European shore marks.
