BOSSNA - FISH GRIPPER FISHING ACCESSORIES FISH CLAMP
Bossna Fish Gripper / Fish Clamp
The Bossna Fish Gripper holds a fish securely by the lower jaw while you remove the hook, take a photograph, weigh it or return it to the water. The jaws grip the lip rather than the body, keeping hands away from teeth, spines and gill plates and avoiding the gill and slime-coat damage that comes from grabbing a fish across the flank. It is stainless steel for rust resistance, light for its strength, and fitted with an ergonomic EVA handle that stays non-slip with wet hands. A wrist strap secures the tool to you — worth using, because a stainless gripper dropped over the side goes straight to the bottom. Both models carry an integrated scale reading to 25 kg with a 30 kg maximum, and the 652034 version adds a 1 m measuring tape.
Key Features
- Stainless steel construction, rust resistant for salt and fresh water
- Lightweight and high strength
- Fish-friendly lip grip that minimises harm to the mouth and gills
- Ergonomic EVA handle — non-slip and comfortable when wet
- Wrist strap keeps the tool secured and prevents it being dropped in the water
- Integrated scale: 25 kg range, 30 kg maximum
- 1 m measuring tape on stock code 652034 only
How To Use It
- Grip the lower jaw, not the body — Place the jaws centrally on the lower lip and let them close. Never clamp the upper jaw, the gill plate or across the body; a lip grip holds without pressure on the gills, the part that damages most easily.
- Never lift a large fish vertically — Hanging by the jaw puts the whole body weight on the jaw joint and spine, and on a heavy fish that can cause permanent internal damage even when it swims away. Support the belly with a wet hand and keep the fish horizontal. Vertical hangs are for small fish, briefly.
- Weigh quickly, then support again — Take the reading in a few seconds, then go back to a two-handed horizontal hold. On big fish a weigh sling is kinder for the same number.
- Releasing a fish — Unhook in the water where you can, keep air exposure under about thirty seconds, wet your hands first, and hold the fish upright facing the current until it kicks away on its own. Do not throw a fish back.
- After saltwater — Rinse, work the jaws open and closed to flush salt from the pivot, and dry before storing. Salt left in the mechanism stiffens the jaws and will eventually seize the spring.
Target Species By Region
- Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) and barramundi (siakap): hard mouths, sharp gill plates, and increasingly release-only rules on Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian toman waters and private lakes. Also peacock bass and hampala barb (sebarau).
- North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass in tournament fishing, where fish are held in a livewell and released at weigh-in and handling quality decides survival rates. Also pike, walleye, redfish and snook.
- Japan & East Asia — Seabass (suzuki) on shore plugging is almost always released, and a lip grip is the standard way to control one on a rock ledge. Also rockfish and buri on deck.
- Australia, Middle East & Europe — Australian legal size and bag limits mean fish are routinely measured and returned, which a gripper plus tape makes quick: barramundi, mulloway, flathead and bream. Queenfish on Gulf flats; pike and zander in Europe, where pike need a controlled hold away from the teeth.
