Luresfactory TR Lotus Frog Jr. 4.5cm 7g Hardbody Topwater

The TR Lotus Frog Jr. is unusual among the Triton frogs because it does two jobs in one retrieve. Wound steadily it stays up in the film and throws splash as it cruises, like any surface frog. Stop winding and it does not park on top — it sinks slowly, nose-down, the way a real frog drops out of sight when something moves behind it. That single change of plane is the whole point of the lure: it lets you fish the surface until a fish shows interest, then give it the one thing a floating frog cannot, a slow disappearing fall in the strike zone. The 4.5cm body carries 7g, enough to pitch accurately into gaps between lotus stems, pad edges and overhanging branches without being so heavy that the sink becomes a plummet. A silicone skirt spreads behind the body through both the swim and the fall, and a close-fitting double hook is backed by a wire weed guard for working around light vegetation — no lure is completely snag-free.

Key Features

  • Hard-body frog, 4.5cm and 7g
  • Cruises and splashes on a steady retrieve, then sinks slowly on the pause
  • Wire weed guard over a close-fitting double hook
  • Flexible silicone skirt keeps working during the sink
  • Compact body for pitching into narrow openings in cover
  • Five colour patterns, 01 to 05

How To Fish It

  • Swim, stop, sink — Wind steadily until the frog reaches a likely spot, then stop dead and let it drop for two or three seconds on a semi-slack line. Watch the line rather than the lure; the take often comes while it is out of sight.
  • Count the fall — Over a metre of water, count the sink and start the next retrieve one count before it would reach bottom. Repeating the same count keeps the lure in the productive band.
  • Work the holes in lotus and pads — Pitch into a gap, splash it once or twice, then let it sink inside the pocket instead of dragging it back out over the leaves.
  • Use it after a missed strike — When a fish boils at a floating frog and misses, cast back and let this one sink on the same spot. The falling presentation converts a lot of those follow-ups.
  • Set on weight — The guard has to be pressed down before the point is free. Wind until the rod loads, then sweep sideways rather than striking upward at the splash.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Striped snakehead (haruan) in lotus ponds and paddy drains; giant snakehead (toman) around weed edges and drowned timber; peacock bass in lily pockets; hampala barb (sebarau) on shallow river margins.
  • North America — Largemouth bass in pad fields and hydrilla holes, chain pickerel in weedy shallows, northern snakehead in tidal creeks.
  • Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) in canals and irrigation ponds, bass in shallow reservoir weed, catfish (namazu) at dusk.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga and sooty grunter in lily-covered billabongs and creek pools; perch and pike over weed beds in European lakes and canals.

Colours: 01 Green, 02 Yellow, 03 Red, 04 Green Strip, 05 Brown (SKU 33LFTRLSFJ01–33LFTRLSFJ05).

Recommended Pairing

  • Medium to medium-heavy casting rod with a tip sensitive enough to register a take on the sink
  • 20–40 lb braid straight through so the drop stays under control and slack can be read
  • Short fluorocarbon leader in clear water; braid alone where fish must be lifted out of lotus stems
  • A high-visibility braid helps considerably, since many bites are seen on the line rather than felt
