Luresfactory TR Jumper Frog N Series JPFN 4.5cm 12g Hardbody Topwater

The TR Jumper Frog is a compact hard-body surface frog built to reproduce the movement of a small frog swimming and hopping across open water. Unlike a popper, which stays put and makes noise, and unlike a walking bait, which slides side to side, a jump frog travels forward in short hops on a plain constant retrieve — the body lifts, drops back and skips, giving a combination of jumping movement, light popping sounds and small splashes without the angler having to work a cadence at all. That makes it a straightforward lure to fish: wind it and it works. At 4.5cm and 12g it is heavy for its length, which loads a rod well and gives accurate placement into gaps between reeds, lily pockets and holes under branches. A flexible silicone skirt spreads and pulses behind the body, and a strong 2/0 double hook sits close to the body so it travels through light vegetation with far less exposure than a treble-hooked lure. No lure is completely snag-free.

Key Features

  • Topwater hard-body jump frog, 4.5cm and 12g
  • Jumping, popping and light splashing action on a plain constant retrieve
  • Flexible silicone skirt adds movement and vibration behind the body
  • Strong 2/0 double hook mounted close to the body for fishing around light cover
  • Dense for its length, giving accurate casts and good rod loading
  • Realistic frog colour and body pattern
  • Works on constant, twitching and pause retrieves
  • Five color patterns

How To Fish It

  • Straight wind — Start here. A steady, moderate retrieve is enough to make it hop, blip and splash by itself. Keep the rod tip low and the speed constant; the hopping rhythm breaks up if you speed up and slow down.
  • Twitch for irregularity — Add short rod-tip taps into the retrieve to break the rhythm and make the hops uneven. Use this when fish follow the straight wind without taking.
  • Pause in the strike zone — Stop the lure over a drain mouth, a gap in the reeds or a stump and let it sit. The skirt keeps working while the body is still, which holds the presentation in front of a fish that has not committed.
  • Work the edges and lanes — Cast along weed edges, lily pad lines, grass and drowned branches and keep the lure within a rod length of them for the whole retrieve. The close-fitting double lets you run right against cover.
  • Set on weight — A hard body cannot fold, so striking at the splash pulls the double away from the fish. Keep winding, wait until you feel the rod load, then sweep sideways.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) on reservoir weed edges and drowned timber, striped snakehead (haruan) in paddy drains and canals, peacock bass in lily pockets, hampala barb (sebarau) on river weed lines, juvenile barramundi (siakap) at mangrove drain mouths.
  • North America — Largemouth bass frog fishing on pads, duckweed and grass lines, plus chain pickerel and bowfin in backwaters and northern snakehead in tidal creeks.
  • Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) on matted cover and cover edges, bass over shallow reservoir weed, catfish (namazu) at dusk in canals and paddy channels.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and barramundi in creek arms; pike and perch over shallow weed in European lakes and canals.
