Luresfactory MF Poison Pop 4.5cm 9.3g Hardbody Topwater

The MF Poison Pop is a compact hard-body popper finished in a poison-dart-frog pattern with prominent eyes. The working part of the lure is the front: a broad, cupped face that catches water when the rod tip is pulled down against it. That cup is what separates a popper from a walking or jumping surface lure — instead of travelling across the water, it grabs a mouthful, throws it forward as an audible pop and a visible spray, and then stops almost where it started. The result is a lure that makes noise without covering ground, so it can stay in one small strike zone for a long time. At 4.5cm and 9.3g it is dense enough to cast accurately at weed edges, grass lines, lily pockets and gaps in timber, and the solid body holds its shape after repeated fish.

Key Features

  • Topwater hard-body popper, 4.5cm and 9.3g
  • Wide cupped front face that pushes water and pops on a downward rod stroke
  • Compact frog-style profile for tight, accurate casts
  • Poison-frog-inspired colour patterns with prominent eyes
  • Solid body supports controlled casting and holds its shape in use
  • Works on popping, twitching and pause retrieves
  • Suits shallow water, weed edges, grass lines and structure
  • Six colour patterns

How To Fish It

  • Pop and pause — This is the core retrieve. One sharp downward tap of the rod tip to make the cup bite and spit, then stop and count two or three seconds while the rings spread. Take up slack without moving the lure, then pop again. Most fish take it while it sits still, not while it is moving.
  • Stay in the strike zone — Because a cupped face barely travels, you can work a single pocket, drain mouth or stump for ten or fifteen seconds from one cast. On a fish you know is there but will not chase, keep the lure over it and lengthen the pauses rather than casting again.
  • Adjust the pop to the mood — Hard, close-spaced strokes make loud chugs and a big spray for coloured water, chop or aggressive fish. Soft strokes give a quiet blip and a small ring for calm, clear mornings and pressured water.
  • Blow-up drill — Poppers draw misses because the lure is stationary and the fish overshoots. Do not strike at the splash. Keep the line coming, wait for the rod to load, then sweep sideways. If a fish misses, pause the lure where it is and pop it once more.
  • First and last light — Dawn, dusk and overcast days are prime. In flat, bright midday conditions shorten the pop and lengthen the pause.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Giant snakehead (toman) over reservoir weed and timber, striped snakehead (haruan) in paddy drains and canals, peacock bass in lily pockets, hampala barb (sebarau) on river weed lines, juvenile barramundi (siakap) at mangrove drain mouths.
  • North America — Largemouth and smallmouth bass around pads, grass and laydowns at first light, plus chain pickerel and bowfin in backwaters.
  • Japan & East Asia — Bass on shallow reservoir weed, snakehead (raigyo) on cover edges, catfish (namazu) after dark in canals and paddy channels.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and barramundi in creek arms; perch and pike over shallow weed in European lakes and canals.
