Luresfactory MF Mash Frog Jr. 3.5cm 6.6g Hardbody Topwater

The Mash Frog Jr. is the smallest and lightest frog in the Mash Frog family — 3.5cm and 6.6g — and it exists to do the jobs the bigger bodies cannot. Two centimetres shorter and less than half the weight of the New Mash Frog, it presents a small, young-frog silhouette, lands with the quietest entry of the four, and keeps working at a crawl where a 13g or 15.8g body would simply plough. The trade-off is worth knowing: 6.6g casts the shortest distance in the family and is first to be pushed off line by wind, so this is a short-to-medium range lure for sheltered water — drains, small ponds, canal corners, narrow creek arms — not a tool for reaching across an open reservoir. The body carries a detailed natural pattern, silicone skirt strands pulse behind it, and the rear double hook sits close to the body for work along grass edges and branches. No lure is completely snag-free.

Key Features

  • Topwater frog, 3.5cm and 6.6g — the smallest and lightest of the Mash Frog family
  • Compact frog-shaped body with a realistic natural colour pattern
  • Small profile and quiet entry for pressured fish and thin water
  • Holds a surface action at very slow retrieve speeds
  • Flexible silicone skirt strands add vibration and movement
  • Rear double hook mounted close to the body to pass through light cover
  • Four colour patterns

How To Fish It

  • Crawl it — Wind as slowly as you can while still keeping the body moving. The Jr. holds its action at speeds no heavier frog in the family will sustain, which is what turns cold or heavily fished water.
  • Tight, accurate casts — Its strength is placement, not distance. Aim at the gap in the pads, the shaded pocket under a bush, the corner where a drain meets a canal; the soft landing avoids spooking fish in thin water.
  • Twitch and long pause — Two short twitches, then stop for three seconds or more. Because it floats high for its size it simply sits there while the skirt keeps breathing, and most takes come during that stop.
  • Match small forage — Where fish are feeding on young frogs, small tilapia fry or insects, the 3.5cm silhouette matches what is actually on the surface. Use it when bigger frogs are being followed and refused.
  • Pause before setting — Striking at the splash pulls a hard body clear. Wind through the blow-up, wait for the rod to load with weight, then sweep sideways.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Striped snakehead (haruan) in drains, paddy channels and small ponds; mid-size giant snakehead (toman) along weeded margins; peacock bass in lily pockets; hampala barb (sebarau) in shallow river runs.
  • North America — Largemouth bass in ponds, creek backwaters and duckweed-covered corners; chain pickerel and bowfin in shallow swamps.
  • Japan & East Asia — Snakehead (raigyo) in small canals and irrigation ponds, catfish (namazu) at dusk, bass in shallow weedy margins.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Saratoga in lily-covered billabongs and sooty grunter in creek pools; perch and small pike over weed beds in European canals.

Where it sits in the Mash Frog family:

Model Length Weight Hook Best at
Mash Frog Jr. 3.5cm 6.6g Rear double Smallest profile, tight water, pressured fish
Mash Frog 5.5cm 13g Rear double Longest profile, high float, all-round work
New Mash Frog 5cm 15.8g 3/0 double Heaviest — lowest float, longest cast, biggest wake
American Toad 5cm 13g 2/0 double + weed guard Rattle and weed guard, gliding and popping

Recommended Pairing

  • Medium to medium-heavy rod that loads properly with a 6.6g lure — a heavy frog stick will not cast this weight well
  • 20–30 lb braid straight through; enough to lift fish from weed without killing casting distance
  • Baitcaster suited to light lures, or a 2000–2500 size spinning reel with a fast retrieve
