Hinotsu Wormer Hook 4789 Ringed NSB

The Wormer Hook 4789 is a heavy-duty ringed hook for worms, natural baits and demanding bait-fishing work. Its forged, 2X-strength construction resists bending under load, and the inline point sits in line with the eye so hook-setting force transfers directly into the fish rather than twisting the hook. A chemically sharpened needle-cutting point combines an ultra-fine tip with cutting edges for clean penetration. The welded ring eye gives a strong connection while letting the bait move freely, under a low-glare black nickel finish.

Despite the shared name, this is not one of the WH offset worm hooks. Those are cranked-shank hooks for rigging soft plastics weedless; the 4789 has a straight inline shank and is made for real bait — earthworms, prawn, cut bait and small live baits. It is packed for it too: eleven sizes from #2 to #12, fifteen hooks per pack rather than five.

Key Features

  • 2X strong forged construction for pressure from hard-fighting fish
  • Inline straight point aligned with the eye for a direct pulling path
  • Chemically sharpened needle-cutting point
  • Welded ring eye: closed and stronger than a folded eye, accepts a snap, and will not cut fine leader
  • Sharp barb to keep a hold when fish shake, roll or run
  • Black nickel (NSB) finish, low glare and corrosion resistant
  • Eleven sizes, #2 (largest) to #12 (smallest), fifteen hooks per pack

How To Rig It

  • Threaded worm — Pass the point through the head of the worm and thread it down the shank, leaving 20–30 mm hanging free. Leave the point exposed — unlike a weedless plastic rig, nothing is buried here.
  • Running sinker — Run a bean or ball sinker to a swivel, then a 40–80 cm leader to the hook, so a fish can pick the bait up and move without feeling the weight.
  • Bottom and apollo rigs — Snood two or three hooks above a sinker for jetty, surf and estuary work; the ring eye stops a snood knot slipping.
  • Prawn and cut bait — Hook a peeled prawn once through the tail so it hangs straight, or pin a strip bait through one end only to flutter on the drop.
  • Choosing a size — #10–#12 for small baits and shy biters, #6–#8 for general estuary work, #2–#5 for whole prawn and better fish.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Catfish (ikan keli, patin), tilapia and haruan on worm baits in canals and ponds; whiting, bream and small grouper off jetties and mangrove channels.
  • North America — Panfish, crappie, perch and channel catfish on nightcrawlers, walleye on worm harnesses, surf whiting on cut bait.
  • Japan & East Asia — Kisu, haze and mebaru on sandworm baits from beaches and harbour walls, the everyday bait fishing alongside the light-game styles.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Bream, whiting and flathead on beach and estuary rigs; carp, tench and roach on European stillwaters; sea bream on Gulf marks.
