Hinotsu SJ-1 Slow Jigging Hook Pack w/Flatted 47811

The SJ-1 is the base hook of the Hinotsu slow jigging series and the one that covers the most ground — five sizes from #1/0 to #7/0 on standard forged wire, with a flatted tying end instead of an eye. Slow pitch asks something unusual of a hook: the jig falls flat and fluttering, fish inhale it on slack line, and there is no swing of the rod to drive the point home, so penetration comes from rod load alone. The SJ-1 answers with a chemically sharpened Eagle Cutting point in straight-point alignment, so pulling force runs into the point rather than levering the bend open, over a forged body that resists opening when a deep fish turns for structure.

Flatted or ringed? A flatted hook has its shank end pressed flat rather than carrying an eye. You bind assist cord onto that flat and sleeve it: lighter, slimmer, and the flat stops the cord rolling round the shank — but you build the rig yourself. A ringed hook arrives with an eye or fitted solid ring and clips straight to a split or solid ring: faster and stronger at the joint, slightly bulkier at the hook.

Key Features

  • Flatted tying end that holds assist cord straight and stable
  • Forged construction, reinforced against bending and opening under drag
  • Chemically sharpened Eagle Cutting point with angled cutting surfaces
  • Deep bend, wide gap and a barb that holds after a slack-line hook-up
  • Low-glare tinted finish for saltwater presentations
  • Five sizes, #1/0 to #7/0, supplied bare for custom assist builds

How To Rig It

  • Building the assist — Fold Kevlar assist cord over the flatted section, whip it down with assist thread and seal the wrap. Finished length: roughly one third to one half of the jig body.
  • Front and rear — Slow pitch usually runs a hook at both ends, because a flat-falling jig is eaten from behind as often as from the head. Vertical jigging runs the front only.
  • Matching hook to jig — The gape must clear the jig body without catching metal on the fall. Oversizing kills the flutter slow pitch depends on.
  • Fighting — The point is set by rod load, not a strike, so keep the rod bent and let the drag give line. Slack is what loses slow-pitch fish.

Target Species By Region

  • Southeast Asia — Grouper (kerapu), red snapper (ikan merah) and jenahak on deep reef and wreck marks; gerepoh (giant trevally) and tenggiri over the same ground.
  • North America — Amberjack, grouper and snapper on Gulf and Atlantic wrecks; lingcod, rockfish and halibut on Pacific slow-pitch drops.
  • Japan & East Asia — The home of the technique: rockfish (根魚) such as kasago and akamutsu, madai on the smaller sizes, buri and hiramasa where the drop turns vertical.
  • Australia, Middle East & Europe — Kingfish, pearl perch and snapper on Australian deep reef; hamour and cobia in the Gulf; pollack and ling on European wrecks.
